I would like to paint the walls of our living room a color that would complement and bring to life a plum colored couch and love seat. The floors are oak, ceilings are high. This is a charming old house with large windows.

When a hurricane happens, and you see house or roofs being blown off, I wonder why. Why don't people make houses out of bricks. Yeah maybe this will stop houses from being so destroyed. I bet if there is a house made of bricks and a house made of wood side-by-side, and at the same time they're both in a hurricane, I'm sure the wood house will sustain more damage than the brick house. Everyone says, wood is a good insulator, well what about houses in Europe, they're made of bricks, are you telling me the houses over there are not insulated?

When ur watching a program about decorating your home, why is
every single house white in the inside. WHY? Everybody has the same walls, the same carpets, and the same style of kitchen. Which ever home one visits, its the same thing. WHY?

I've been rebuilding a 100 yr old trunk and the hinges are in good shape but badly tarnished, I've tried Brasso cleaner and scrubbing with a coarse sponge but no luck. I've seen on TV a product that supposedly cleans jewelry and things that are tarnished but not a clue what it is called? Any help would be greatly appreciated on ideas to help clean up the handles.
thank you

I am having all my windows replaced in my house and my big picture window to be turned into a sliding glass door. These are my options.
Should I go with a home improvement company that has been in business 28 years and will have the work done in about 2-3 days and warranty's everything for 50 years. Cost about 15,000
Should I go with a friend of the family that has his own home improvement business. He put in a cement floor in my parents polebarn with about 4 other guys. Saved my parents a couple thousand and did a decent job I thought. But no warrenty and may take longer but is probably cheaper than the first company.
Or I can get some Amish people to come in and put windows in that I buy. I was told I could save a considerable amount of money and hear the job will be good quality. But may take longer.
Any advice would be appreciated!

I just bought a house and all the walls and ceilings are textured. I liked it at first, but now it's annoying and I want to get rid of it. What would be cheapest, easiest, and less time consuming... chipping off the plaster, priming and painting it smooth, or just ripping it all down and re-drywalling? I know that chipping it would be cheaper, but what kind of problems would I be running into if I did that?

I have a newer Brother sewing machine and have been trying for over a month to get the bobbin to go in right. This is hard to explain without pictures but i'll try.....The bobbin itself has a circular front & a curved half circle back which seems like it's suppose to just fit right into the machine, but i can not get it to stay in the position it needs to be in, in order to replace the other part which fits over the entire area that holds the bobbin in place. I can get the bobbin in but once i let go of it to replace the other part, the bobbin falls out of place; it has to be in ~just right~ or the part that fits over wont go on right. I am new to sewing but I HAVE used a sewing machine before & did not have this problem with that machine; Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I even had other people try & they had the same problem, but I know the bobbin will go in somehow because it was working fine until it ran out of thread. (I dont have the owners manual)

My husband and I need to wash all the walls of our new home (the previous owners were heavy smokers), tape all the wood trim, and repaint six rooms, two of which are currently very, very dark colors. Then we are recarpeting the living room, hallway, and master bedroom.

To all you handypeople out there, how long will this realistically take?

My husband thinks we can get it done in a weekend and three weeknights. I think it'll be closer to two full weeks. Neither of us come home from work until 6 p.m. during the week, and we've never done this type of thing before.

I know that JCPenney sells them, but I wanted a wider variety to select from. I do not want to buy them custom made or attempt to make them myself. I want the one large panel that is hung on a one-way draw traverse rod so that the panel can be easily moved.

I decorated my room, and I absolutly loved doing it. I want to be an Interior Designer when I'm older. What can I do to prepare for doing that job (Besides collage,I'm 12)? I have "Punch! Super Home Suite" (The $40 one), I check out books from the library, and I love looking at matching furniture, pillows, valences, ect, ect. I just don't have anything else to decorate! I just moved, so I don't have many friends yet (And I'm homeschooled). My Mom won't let me re-decorate the rest of any part of the house. What CAN I decorate?! My room is complete, and I'm not changing it for quite a while. I'm so bored I'm figuring out what my house is going to be like when I grow up! Any ideas to what I can decorate?

At the moment I can't use my right hand because it's broken. Also I cannot sketch worth poop. 5 stars to best answer!

I have been looking for a Gone With The Wind or electric Hurricane lamp in blue. I want a medium or semi-dark blue. Everything I find is white with blue flowers. I can only afford to pay about $55 each plus shipping at the very most. If you know where I can find a pair or have a pair to sell I would love to hear from you. I would like them to be 19 inches tall at the least.
