I am looking for a do it yourself site that has a great description on how to remove an old florescent light (the type that are in a kitchen) and change it into a celing fan. I have tried to look at various website and nothing seems to have this information!

I could give you a lot of instructions here but that would be a bunch of typing. The best thing is to get a book out of the library or look for a book at Home Depot or Lowes. That will explain how to do it.

There are a couple considerations for this project. The first is if the box in the ceiling is strong enough to support the fan. Can you get into the attic above this ceiling and look at the box? If not, you'll have to examine the box and its mount from below the ceiling to see if it can hold the fan. If it is a shallow box mounted to the ceiling plaster/sheetrock, it is not strong enough to hold the fan. If it has a sturdy bracket that is nailed solidly into the joists above, then it is probably okay. Without examining it, it's a little hard to say.

The next consideration is whether your fan will be simply a fan or if you will also have a light. If you have both a fan and a light, do you want to control them separately? The easy way to control them separately is to have two wires running from the switchbox to the ceiling box. This means you will have to run a new wire. (There are some more expensive remote-control fans that do not require separate wires to control the fan and light separately. Talk to a salesman at Home Depot or Lowes (or whoever your supplier is) about this option.)

Good luck!

You don't need one. All you do is buy ceiling fan. Turn off electric. (most important thing) take the screws out of old fixture and disconnect the old light. Now follow directions on installing the new fan. I would take off the blades and connect it then put the blades back on. It's easier Make and lighter. Make sure you follow directions on the wiring carefully (like connect red to red and blue to blue )before you put in final screws check and see if it works..........hope this helps you out hun.....Flo
