Our landlord is obsessed with everything looking the same, but people here want to put up their own window treatments. What are tenant rights in this situation?

I have muted yellow walls, not pale or pastel at all, and oak floors. Right now we have a large rug in the room withBurgandy, tans, black, and greens. I may loose the rug if necessary, or replace it with something solid. Any recommendations will be helpful.

I am painting my room a dark brown color right now. But it is not turning out as dark as I originally wanted but it still looks great. But now I am not sure what color to paint my accessories (picture frames, dresser, headboard). I had planned on painting them an even darker brown but now the paint I bought is not that big of a difference from the wall color.

Here are some links to my inspiration...

So what do ya think?
Dark brown
White
or a blue or green like the first pic
or a tan-camel color??

I think I'm going crazy!

My husband and I want to remodel our smaller home. It is an older home, probably one of the first few to be built in our town. I know that mirrors and lighter colors of paint are good for making a space feel bigger. We also have a lot of bookshelves on the wall. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
