I have both of the stores across the street from each other within 5 miles of my house. We have shopped at both and in our experience, found that the people at Lowes were more helpful and in general, more pleasant. The prices seem to be the same and Lowe's seems cleaner and better organized. I guess it all depends who the manager is in the stores near you and who helps you the most.

Lowe's, hands down. It's cleaner, brighter, has better items in terms of design -- Home Depot is strictly boring, standard builder-grade junk. I can never find anyone in Home Depot, and when I do, they don't have a clue. Plus, at HD, there are NEVER enough registers open. NEVER.

My husband and I even talked to the manager at Home Depot about how bad the customer service is there, and his response was basically, "Yeah, you pretty much hit the nail on the head." Pathetic.

I like both stores but I think Lowes has better things but Home Depot is a bit cheaper.

Rumor has it: its a married couple, Home Depot owned by the husband and Lowes owned by the wife. I have noticed that prices for lumber and tools are cheaper at home depot, and for decorating the quality is better at lowes.

Either way they are both great stores and I'm very happy we have them :)

Home Depot! Better service!

Lowes is much cleaner and has a wider selection. Home Depot is more like an older style Hardware/Lumber Yard.

Go to Lowes. Home Depot started out with qualified ex-contractors to help you....now all they have are dumb*sses who won't bother to take the time to actually explain anything to you. Lowes has much better employees and customer service. And I'm a contractor.

I like Home Depot because I know where everthing is. However, I found that Lowes sometimes has more unique stuff and oddball items than HD. It also depends on how new your HD or Lowes is. Newer stores offer more and are bigger.
