A warm sunny yellow would be nice. White or cream is too boring, blue is nice but would limit your accents, I have seen homes with the red and yellow combo and it looks very inviting.

Some of the answers are great suggestions already, but I do not have a specific color in mind. I would just like to suggest that you stay away from any "cool" colors like blues. Stick with "warm" colors. Hope this helps.

A light sagey green.
Or you could do something more neutral (beige, cream) but put a contrasting accent wall behind the couch.

Day-glow orange with green stripes would be interesting. Might even hide the ugly red couch!

NOT RED!!!!! Pick a neutral color like tan or white.... It will give more visibilty to the couch.

Try one of these two colors from behr Quiet Veranda (kinda yellowish green) or Corn Husk ( fairly bright green). I think the Corn Husk would be awesome.

eggshell with a hint of red mixed in ( making it a shimmer of pink)..using a shade of brown or gray for trim moldings in the room....an option would be to paper one wall as well with all the colors mentioned in the pattern.
