They shared a room and now since we built a new house, they each have their own bedrooms and we wanted to think of a different theme for each son. Any ideas are welcome!

when I was ten all I cared about was my bicycle. Then it changes so fast as you get older so I would just do nice paint and trim because in 3 years when your 12 year old is 15 and his new squeeze is over it may be embarrising to have a tree with owls or soccerballs on his walls at that point it might as well be care bears. Nice new furniture, display some trophies, if they have any awards from school hanging them is a must. Maybe a small stereo. keep it so as they grow older changing the room is a mater of rearanging the furniture. It's sort of nice to have your own PAD but don't make it to cool or they will hybernate in there.

My boys are 14 and 16. We just bought a new home a our 14 year old picked his colors RED walls with BLACK window trim and door trim. I was surprised that it looked so nice. He accented the room with leopard print bedding and a black shag rug over the hardwood flooring..lol Our 16yr old is more calm and into oriental theme so his room was painted in 2 different shades of pale almost like an olive green and accented with bamboo curtains and chinese decor on the wall. Don't be afraid to let them pick out the colors it can always be repainted and they will be off to College and we will all wish they were lying around in the rooms WE didn't like but they LOVED. Good luck

Paint the ceiling midnight blue, then get some glow-in-the-dark stars (any craft store), use string to hang stuff for that floating in space look. You can get wall paper with life size pictures of planets and such. Or, you can have a jungle type theme with animals, or a sports theme .

Try asking the two boys who the rooms are being decorated for. See what your kids are into and decorate to what they like. If it's something your not comfortable with compromise with them. You can always consult a children's furniture store. Have fun and thanks for the points.

We did one of ours in the western decor. Cowboy pictures with outdoor colors of browns, blues, greens. A laso on the wall, horse shoes and horse figurines and bedding. The other in camo accents and colors of brown, green and beiges. With toy army men, cantene and other army accents.
