My husband and I need to wash all the walls of our new home (the previous owners were heavy smokers), tape all the wood trim, and repaint six rooms, two of which are currently very, very dark colors. Then we are recarpeting the living room, hallway, and master bedroom.

To all you handypeople out there, how long will this realistically take?

My husband thinks we can get it done in a weekend and three weeknights. I think it'll be closer to two full weeks. Neither of us come home from work until 6 p.m. during the week, and we've never done this type of thing before.

You are looking at pretty close to a week if you devote every spare minute you have to cleaning and painting. Keep in mind too, that paint has to dry between layers.

Good luck!

I would say there is little hope for getting it done in a weekend and three weeknights......

I think a better question is, "How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?"
