To go with your beach thought, sailboats and fishing generally work well. Depending on where you live, and the stores available to you, you can make shell lamps for cheap. I am lucky, as I live in Florida and have easy access to a beach, but some craft stores have them as well. Get an empty lamp, and you can fill it with sand and shells, it is very pretty if you stay with natural colors and none of the painted shells.
If your guys are into sports, maybe a suttle sports theme can play into this.

your son might like the outer space theme.Use midnight blue for the ceiling, get some glow in the dark stars,( craft stores) use string to hang stuff for that floating in space look., a black light would add a little more detail. The bathroom could have sea shells for a soap dish, shower curtain with with the same idea, roll your towels and display them in a large basket .

if theyre into hunting go with camo EVERYTHING (in one room) for the beach u cood paint the walls siesta key (i had that color) and get beach pics and get a light brown/tan/sandy colored comforter. if u like to match try bed in a box at jc penny. most come w/ pillow shams, comforter, and pillows. get a white canopy for the beach look. maybe add some sunsety colors or mural to one wall. try to look for dolphin/sea creature borders. u can make valences out of some sheets if you want. furniture wise i'd go with tan to match the beach sand. i want to be an interior designer when i grow up so plz tell me if my advice was any good. best of luck!
