Getting a new house built, cost is $3500 for a gas logs direct vent fireplace to be built into the house.

Is this worth the money?

Cost includes the gas line
Construction of fire place with direct vent to outside.
Slate or marble surround.
Mantle
Gas logs fire box.

Living in North Carolina figure it would be used 4 months out of 12.

I am adding showers, sinks, radiators and toilets in an extension to my house. As all the pipework will be plastic do I need to earth bond all the items back to the distribution board? All light switches are located outside of the new rooms. Sockets provided for washing machine and tumble dryer will be on a new circuit and therefore earthed back at the board.

My sister in law says we should never plug more than 2 strands into one another, but that seems extreme. Who has than many extension cords anyway? What is a safe number and what about them all going into the same outlet? These are inside lights by the way. Thanks for your help!

I lost my job a couple of months ago and due to financial hardship I am selling off everything I own. I need to find ideas on what would be reasonable prices for some of these items:

1. 52" Toshiba HDTV-2 years old, excellent condition-paid $2,000 for it brand new
2. Kenmore Washer and Dryer--8 years old--still in good shape...XL capacity
3. Various appliances: blender/coffeemaker/toaster/microwave/crock pot...still in good condition, some items seldom used
4. Lot's of framed art, some large pieces and some small
6. Dishes (8 pc. setting, some items missing due to breakage) silverware, Pyrex and Corningware baking sets, skillets, pots, pans
7. Holiday decorations decorations, some handmade items
8. Several pieces of lead crystal...vases, candleholders, frames, serving platters...very good condition
9. Also selling my entire 100 pc. Barbie collection. I figured I would group items in a box and sell them by price ppoint.

Any ideas on prices or advice would help, thanks!

I washed an oversize comforter and the washer appears to have gotten out of balance during the rinse/spin cycle. It didn't complete the cycle and now it won't spin or drain. It will add/fill more water, but won't agitate or go into rinse/spin when I manually move the selector to any of the spin settings. with the lid closed and the dial pulled out (on setting) I can hear the motor making a humming noise (like a transformer) but nothing happens.

I live in a one bedroom highrise condo. I pay for all utilities (gas, electric, water) in one monthly condo fee. With the high cost of oil this year, is it better to use a small portable heater that I plug into an outlet to stay warm than to turn up the thermostat?
