I washed an oversize comforter and the washer appears to have gotten out of balance during the rinse/spin cycle. It didn't complete the cycle and now it won't spin or drain. It will add/fill more water, but won't agitate or go into rinse/spin when I manually move the selector to any of the spin settings. with the lid closed and the dial pulled out (on setting) I can hear the motor making a humming noise (like a transformer) but nothing happens.

This model is a direct-drive, top loading washer. The electrical humm or low buzz could be coming from some other part other than the motor- I'm not sure. I do know that it's not coming from the control panel up top, and that the lid switch is working. The agitator turns by hand, as well as the part above the "transmission" that attaches to the agitator below the drum. Water will go in, but nothing happens after it fills- no wash cycle or agitation, and it won't spin or agitate when I select those settings. There's occasionaly a very quick sound like something tried to engage, but then nothing else except the electrical humming noise.

Your machine is a "direct drive" machine which means that there is no belt. The pump is driven directly off of the motor as is the transmission for agitation and spin through a motor coupling.

If the machine only hums and is not pumping out any water you most likely have something stuck in the pump. If it is pumping out the water but will not spin or agitate and you hear something more of a whirring sound like the motor is actually running your motor coupling is bad.

If you know how to pull the front off the washer , check the
capacitor if it has one for the motor by replacing it. If it checks
ok - the motor is probably shot from being overloaded. If you
dont know how to get the front off and want to tackle this yourself
send me an email.

it sounds like the belt broke from the strain of a heavy load. empty the machine with a pan to get as much water out as you can, then use a sponge for the rest. then you can probably move the machine out and see what's wrong. i take bath rugs and comforters to the laundromat for just this reason.

See if you can get to the motor with the washer unpluged and see if you can turn the motor by hand. If you cant the motor is bad if you can turn it a few times then try to run the washer again
