I never put my Christmas lights back in the boxes they come in, so this year when I took them out of storage, I don't know which ones I can use outside and which ones I can't....

Most of the ones they make now can be used inside or out, if I'm not mistaken. They are low wattage to begin with. The worst that could happen is they blow out when they get wet.

when you take them out of the box put a piece of masking tape around the cord and write on the tape wether they are for outdoors or indoors...no more guessing next year!

Usually the outdoor lights are heavier and the cord is thicker.

outdoor lights typically have three wrapped wires coming from the male end. into the strand of lights

If the indoor ones get used outdoors then they could short out when they get rain or snow on them
. . . you will know then.

just get new lights....or compare your old ones to the lights at the store...

look around you. if you see trees, grass cars,ect, they are outdoors
