I can't speak for lawnmowers specifically, but generally the best time to buy a product with a seasonal usage is right after the season has ended and no one needs one. That's usually when retailers will cut prices to get rid of that year's stock. So while mowing season ended a month or two ago (depending on where you live) there's probably some good deals still to be had right now.

When you see someone moving out of a house who owns a riding lawnmower. I got a used Craftsman 42" rider from the relative of a neighbor who was moving from Texas to Florida and did not want to take it along. It was overkill for the lawn size they had in Texas as well. Best $400 I ever spent.
Rather than moving it, make them an offer if it looks like it's in decent condition.

I don't know where your located, but the Tractor Supply Stores in my area have some left overs. They have pretty hefty markdowns on them. Both the Cub Cadets and Huskees are made by MTD, check them both out. They share features and parts.

Most everything is cheaper off season. Lower states have extended mowing seasons, so depending on where you live you should be able to tell if now is a good time...by looking out at your yard.

If it's green, maybe you should wait.

If it's brown, covered by snow or ice, hey check your local store for deals!

I would say just after Christmas. I woudl wait until about the 3rd week in Janurary. They do not really sell much of anything at that time, so they will be pretty despareate for any sale then.

I think I would wait until after Christmas when the bargains would be even greater. The stores are probably thinking someone would buy this as a Christmas Present.

God Himself has a John Deere. You gotta do SOMETHING about all those aborted fetuses littering the grounds of Heaven. Mulch 'em!
