First remove any pieces of tar with a butter knife. We have effectively used DEGREASER from Stanley Home products and it worked well. You rub the degreaser into the fabric and let it stay for 20 minutes, Rinse and reapply if needed. The wash in the washing machine. Hope this helps.

Most likely you won't be able to get it off, tar soaks into material - however if you can, try using gasoline....don't light it on fire or anything :-)
The chemicals in gasoline break down materials like paint and tar.

If the paint is already dried - forget about it - save that clothing item for the next time you have something to paint in order to preserve the rest of your wardrobe. If it's still wet, just run it under water until it washes out then launder as usual.

Leave some laundry detergent or Dawn (dishwaher soap) on it overnight and was it the next day. Or you can also go to the local auto shop and ask them if you can buy some grease remover from them.

Try soaking it overnight in water with a few cans of Coca Cola in the water. Wash with soap and Coke - it may work. Coke will cut through most oily stains.
