Hannie's right. Give it some more time. That entire seed is stored food for the new plant so you can see there is plenty of food there and no hurry to get it in the ground. Once the stem gets between 6-12 inches tall then you can put it in soil.

The pointed part goes up and the rounded side sits in the water. I usually grow mine in soil with the pointed part barely exposed . In a few weeks, you will see a break in the avocado seed and then a little stalk forms. It is amazing to see that. Hope your avocado seed opens up for you. I tried the water thing with the toothpicks and it never worked for me.

Dont worry it will start and when it does it seems like it grows real fast .I have one thats about 1 foot tall in about 1 month. I pruned mine to make the roots grow more.Just be patience

do you have the seed upside down in water? this will cause stem not to grow, the pointy end goes up.

you can grow avocado seeds in soil more quickly than you can if you try rooting it in water
