Pain & Pain Management - October 2007

i have been experiencing chest painsfor a long time. i've seen the doctor and had electrocardio tests and some other general tests and examinations. a few days ago he concluded that the pain was probably being caused by my jionts and muscless (my ribs). he told me to take an advil or tylenol when the pain occurs.
i am wondering if taking daily low dose aspirin (81mg) would be an appropriate way to prevent the pain.

I went to Arizona for a small roadtrip, I came back and a few days later my boyfriend and I (we went together) got aches all over our body. I got it worse, I slept for more or less 36 hours and have HORRIBLE HORRIBLE stomach pains as well as fever and aches. I dont have nausea or anything like that, and I'm still exhausted! This has been going on for days, and my boyfriend is fine. Can anyone give a diagnosis?

My son is currently taking it for an undetermined length of time. I would like to know if I should be on the watch for any problems associated with taking it over an extended period of time. So far, he hasn't experienced anything, but some relief from pain.

Thanks so much for any input you might have:)

I went to a concert last night...and I woke up this morning and everything is muffled. This has never happened before...I've had ringing in my ears for about a week one time due to a concert, but this time everything is just muffled. I'm really worried that I'm not going to be able to hear right again :( Is there any hope for me?

Kevlar is the stuff used to make bullet proof vest. My husband and I were at a tradeshow and some people were there with this type of insert that goes into your shoes according to your shoe size. The piece isn't covering the WHOLE insole, just the heel area and they claim that they "align" your body back into it's right position when your wear them in your shoes. They are pretty pricey for a pair of them but when they did the demo on us they seem to really help, and are supposedly lifetime guarenteed. Does ANYONE know what I'm talking about???

I THINK BEING IN A ROOM AND HAVING THE WALLS SLOWLY CAVE YOU IN AND CRUSH YOU SLOWLY. OR HAVING A SWINGING BLADE PENGELUM SLOWLY LOWERING TO YOUR HEART WHILE YOU ARE STRAPPED TO A CHAIR. OUCH!! What about you? Worst way to die gets best answer! (also, many people don't think about the walls caving in on you, but it can happen!)

I have been on methadone for spinal stenosis and DDD for about a month now. I am on a total of 55 mg per day and have vicodin (10/500's) for breakthrough pain. So far I have not had to use the vicodin but my doc said I could use it when I needed to. I feel like I am on a high dose of methadone and even though I got the go ahead I am worried about taking the vicodin along with it (I also take Soma as needed). I have having a bad day with my back and feel like I could really benefit from taking a vicodin. I took 2 Somas about 3 hours ago and it didnt help (I am allowed to take 1-2 up to 3 times per day as needed of the Soma). Is anyone on a dose of methadone similar to mine and taken vicodin or other pain meds for breakthrough? How did it make you feel? I dont want to feel to sedated or too out of it. And I dont want to worry about taking too much meds. Advice would be great! And btw...I do have a call into my doc office but they have yet to call me back.

Thanks in advance!

Today my son started taking fentanyl 12 mcgs/hr and I have concerns about this pain patch.
He has had chronic back pain associated with a herniated disc for a couple of years and doctors don't seem able (or willing) to do anything to fix his problem. He has been taking narcotic medication for this (Percocet) and also attending a pain clinic where he has had four prolotherapy treatments. The doctor at the pain clinic is now prescribing this fentanyl patch which seems like a low dose. If anyone is taking this patch or has taken this patch, please write about its' effects on you, whether your dose was increased and whether or not it helped you. He is unable to work, has no income, and no one seems to be doing anything to help him except medicate him. Any advice?

I know for years I have had hip and low back pain. But now, I have sort of a limp in my walk because my right hip, right butt and right low back has been killing me with a sharp pain. It hurts bad. Now I was mowing the lawn this morning, and when I finished, my left arm now all of a sudden hurts. Maybe I sprain it. But not sure. Any suggestions?

I have been to the ER twice in the last week. I have an appointment on the 17th with a urologist.

Yesterday I barely managed the pain with 2mg Dilaudid.
This AM the pain started again so I took 2mg Dilaudid and half a 5mg Percocet (Around 8:00)
At 9:30 the pain was still too much, and I was getting nauseated, so I took a Phenergan Suppository (25mg) for the nausea and the other half of the percocet.
It is 10:15 now and I am still suffering. I took an 800mg Motrin just 5 minutes ago.

If this doesn't stop the pain, I need to know what to do.
I know the generally-accepted advice is to go to the ER.
I cannot afford another ambulance ride and ER visit. I cannot drive myself (obviously) and even if I go, they will just give me pain killers for now and I will be here again tomorrow.

I have already taken a lot of medication, but I want to know how much is safe. They gave me dilaudid in the ER and it worked well but I do not know the dose they used.

Can I take another 2mg?

About 3 years ago I had an MRI and told I had a bulging disc. I got meds and felt fine after. Just recently my back is feeling that same way again. Horrible pain, stiffness and I can hardly walk. Does a bulging disc go away? Could this be the same one or another one?

I experience extreme pain on the left side of my lower back and the left side of my front around the waist area. So, both of these areas are probably connected to the same thing that is causing the pain. I really don't have any pain when I walk or I sit down. The pain comes when I sneeze or cough or take a deep breath. 5 days ago, I was lifting some pretty heavy objects that I wanted to get rid off from my house (cement blocks, various bricks, doors, etc.) and maybe this has something to do with it. Mind you, I can twist my waist and no pain either. Again, the most pain comes when I sneeze, cough, deep breath and it seems to be at its worse at night. Sleeping is excruciating. I am 46 years old, in excellent health and shape. Can anyone perhaps suggest something sensible regarding the cause and cure to this pain? Thanks!
