It is not at all uncommon for pain management specialists to prescribe methadone, in addition to the vicodin (hydrocodone) for breakthrough pain. As long as you don't exceed the dosage prescribed, you should be fine taking the vicodin, too, if you're still in pain.
With the dosage of methadone you're on, you should not feel too sedated by the vicodin.
If you feel you are taking too high a dose of methadone, try cutting your dosage back a bit tomorrow. Does your prescription say "as needed"? Try to get by on less methadone, perhaps reducing by only 5 or 10 milligrams. Try to get by on just enough methadone to control your pain, supplementing with the vicodin for breakthru pain.

Do NOT screw with your methadone dose without consulting your doc. I'm on a very high dose of methadone and yes you can take the Vicoodin and no it won't kill you. Don't let that scare you. I have been on methadone for 15 years and on morphine for around the same. I'm still alive hun. If your doc prescribed it he knows what he's doing but you never mess with the methadone dose or do anything your doc has not told you to do. I've been in chronic pain(for age 3-38) and have studied these drugs extensively for years. The only thing my doc has drilled into my head is not to mess with the methadone dose. You will be fine and if you still have reservations wait for the doc to call. Ask for a lower dose of Methadone. It does take some time to get used to higher doses. I won't tell you how much Methadone I'm on for fear the drug addicts that fly thru here will think they can take that much and it would kill those who don't have the tolerance. good luck

Though sciatica is a common problem, it is really surprising that often it is hard to tell why a person suffers from this ailment. This is why it is often referred to as a back pain complex. Even experienced doctors find it difficult to pinpoint a cause. Number of medical conditions lead to sciatica such as stress and trauma at any point on spinal cord or lower back. This is understandable but when a person feels this pain and the underlying causes are as general as obesity or pregnancy, it presents a vague picture to the doctor. There can be many more underlying causes that require supervision and treatment at the right time.

Yes, Methadone and hydrocodone or oxycodone can be used together, provided the oxycodone is in the short-release formulation. In chronic pain management a long acting narcotic is often used in conjunction with a short-acting narcotic for breakthrough pain. Methadone is no good for pain? It was invented as a pain pill and is frequently used by pain management specialist to treat... yes, pain. Granted, the most commonly known use is for treating drug addicts. Contrary to common belief it doesn't prevent highs. It simply replaces the illegal, more dangerous drug in the bodies receptors, thus cutting the cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

I have Fibromyalgia and I take Oxcodone (very similar to Vicodin, which I have taken in the past), actually they're kind of stimulants. I take Soma as well (muscle relaxant) but I dont take Methadone. My friend takes all of the above and she functions just fine. Trust your Doctor, I'm sure you'll be fine. Hope you feel better :)

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment https://bitly.im/stop-sciatica-now
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.
