I have been to the ER twice in the last week. I have an appointment on the 17th with a urologist.

Yesterday I barely managed the pain with 2mg Dilaudid.
This AM the pain started again so I took 2mg Dilaudid and half a 5mg Percocet (Around 8:00)
At 9:30 the pain was still too much, and I was getting nauseated, so I took a Phenergan Suppository (25mg) for the nausea and the other half of the percocet.
It is 10:15 now and I am still suffering. I took an 800mg Motrin just 5 minutes ago.

If this doesn't stop the pain, I need to know what to do.
I know the generally-accepted advice is to go to the ER.
I cannot afford another ambulance ride and ER visit. I cannot drive myself (obviously) and even if I go, they will just give me pain killers for now and I will be here again tomorrow.

I have already taken a lot of medication, but I want to know how much is safe. They gave me dilaudid in the ER and it worked well but I do not know the dose they used.

Can I take another 2mg?

I guess I should add that I have probably built a resistance to narcotics because I have crohn's disease and was living on them for months at a time in the past.

Also, I have 5 and a half days until my visit with the Dr. and I have 6 percocet, 8 dilaudid and 3 morphine (30mg) to get me through till then.

I also have the 800mg motrins, but I would like to avoid that if possible because I am trying to get pregnant as of this month and I heard that ibuprophen is very harmful to an embryo.

Can a pharmacist or doctor here possibly suggest a pain management plan for me?

I read on another Y!A page that some have used Uristat for relief when passing a kidney stone. The only info I got from the pharmacist about that was that is not what it is intended for and is really only effective for relief from burning. I may be able to find a person to drive me to the pharmacy if someone can testify that it actually will help (like they have used it themselves) but I don't want to bother family or neighbors for something that only *might* stand a chance at slight relief.

I am trying the olive oil and lemon juice thing now too.

Percocet is Oxycodone and it also has 325mg of acetominophen in it.
Hydrocodone is Vicodin, which I find to be less effective than percocet, plus it makes me throw up.

I am still waiting for a phone call from my doctor but in the meantime I will do the diluted lemonade as well.

2 days ago, I tried the asparagus/coke trick, but after the 3rd can of coke I threw up.

Honestly, my tolerance is pretty high for these drugs. I really only feel like I have smoked a strong cigarette. I probably could drive safely, but I am not stupid.

I wonder if it was 10mg that they gave me in the ER. Thank you both for your input so far.

whoa, lots of info. YOu will have to call a doctor for this, not your typical pain relievers working looks like. I have passed 3 stones in past 3 years, for the first 2 I was pregnant-I took Hydrocodone, 1 tab for 6 hours and it knocked me out, for the last one this past July I also took one every 6 hours for 2 days, then it passed. Drink a lot of weak lemonade to push it through as fast as you can. WIth the last one I had a lot of blood and some blockage it really upset me a lot. My 3 stones were 9mm, 7mm, and 6mm. How many days passing it? You will have no choice but go to ER or call ambulance I think, I am so sorry-let us know how you do! Is hydrocodone the same as percocet? My potency is 7.5mg if that helps, I am 115 pound female. I have it only for emergencies as you are describing. ** Personally, when I take the 7.5mg Hydrocodone-it really knocks me out-I mean I cannot walk at all. I would NOT be able to type on the computer after taking just 1 tablet, so you are probably safe. I will check back later on!** I don't think the ibuprofen will help at all. The important thing with severe pain is to take the narcotic at the first bit of pain, if the pain becomes severe it is hard to control it later on, it has to do with the pain receptors and neurotransmitters. I hope you are holding out ok.

I come from a family of kidney stone problems and believe mostly genetic, so you either have them or you don't. Four of my brothers and sisters do not have them, although me and my sister have them. Saturday, my son yells out to me holding his side, to come in. I could tell it was probably a kidney stone and after 8 hours sitting in the emergency room and test, he had a 2.8 mm. I have had two occurrences in the past, one measuring 2.7mm and the last 7mm. I don't think hospitals give you anything stronger than hydrocordone or lortabs. They will give you an IV with morphine and send you home later, only to return when it wears off unless you have a strong pain killer at home. I tried the hydrocordone and it would not touch my kidney stone pain and only until I meet with the urologist and get the dulata, did I get relief. It took me five days to pass the small stone, but it was shaped like a boomerang and cut me pretty bad going down the ureter tube. The pain was tremendous and only the dulata was able to keep the pain at bay until I passed the stones. I am taking my son tomorrow to my urologist so he can get the same medication I had although he does not have any insurance. I don't care if it cost, will pay it a little at a time later, your main concern is to stop the pain. I don't think I could have made it five days without it. Next time I would say forget about all of the other drugs and get your urologist to prescribe you with 2 or 4mg hydromorphone. I did fine on it for 3 days after getting it until my stone passed. You can still function properly without being dizzy, nauseated, or drowsey. I don't know why this is not an automatic for kidney stones. I have heard of so many cases of friends suffering trying to get through a kidney stone on hydrocordone which is a joke. I just wish everyone that prescribes this gets one themself and see how it works. I bet they would stop that or maybe it is a big cover up. Guess we will find out later. This is just my opinion, an oil painter and artist.

I suffered from kidney stones for the past 3 years. I have visited at least 5 different doctors during this period. They could only provide me temporary relief then my stones would simply come back. At last I came across this kidney stones treatment program online ( http://best-remedy-for-kidney-stones.blogspot.com/ ) . I got the two natural items it recommended from the nearby grocery store for just 7 dollars. This helped dissolve my kidney stones within a short time span of only a few hours.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Dilaudid is available in 10mg pills, so 4mg should be OK.
