i have been experiencing chest painsfor a long time. i've seen the doctor and had electrocardio tests and some other general tests and examinations. a few days ago he concluded that the pain was probably being caused by my jionts and muscless (my ribs). he told me to take an advil or tylenol when the pain occurs.
i am wondering if taking daily low dose aspirin (81mg) would be an appropriate way to prevent the pain.

No, aspirin is not good, it can cause stomach bleeding and a heart problem has already been ruled out. If you want to take a low dosage, you probably don't need a pain killer at all. Do as the doctor says, he knows what he is talking about.

yes a 81mg low dose aspirin helps and is recommened by doctors around here to prevent heart attack and or stroke. even a 81mg baby aspirin is the same. I just wonder have you gotten a second opinion? sometimes doctor's if they can't figure out what is what will put a person on a medicine that will end up masking their symptoms instead of healping as has been in my case before a few times. but i have always made it a rule to get a second opinion and this has saved me in the past because if i would have took what they prescribed i wouldn't be here now. it could be just arthritis but still you should get an accurate diagnosis from a doctor thaty can tell you for certain. good luck, best wishes.

Hit the nail on the head. The plate that connects the rib cage in the front can get out of wack and it hurts, even when you breath, a real sharp pain and weirding out about it doesn't help. I have also had heart pains due to a racing heart from ruptured disc in neck and back. My heart would beat different ways and miss beats and the doctor put me on this medicine that could kill me and also gave me a medicine so when I have bad chest pains from that pill I could take it.

Well I neve went back to see him and cut down on coffee and smokes and if I pull that brest plate deal I just go easy until it gets better. Now I also take xanax if my heart starts beating out of wack, but if I have pain meds then I can control. Stress also has something to do with it sometimes.

I stopped taking the pills the "great heart" doctor turned me on to over a year ago, might have killed me. Anyway I take a couple of the 81 mg in the morning, if my chest gets sore or tight I'll pop a couple in the afternoon and two at bedtime.

Works for me.Think of the people that take two of the 325s or larger and more if they have a hangover. I buy the 500 pill bottle ($6) at Sam's if I can and have not called to see if made in China, but will and will tell you later if possible as most sell a little bottle of 24 for $3. They are the enteric type, but have used the other with no problems for years.

You might also order the zone fish oil and take vitamin E. Both do the same thing and help your body. Aspirin is made from the bark of a tree. Good sites you might want to check out are knowthecause.com, swrc.com. oldsouthwinery.com they have a product called New-u made from Mississippi muscadines (it is a natural cox 1-2 inhibitor and really works for me as Celebrex and Vioxx did not, no side effects also and the stuff is like Viagra and cures most cancers*. YOu may also buy biorutin made by Natures Plus Vitamins at vitaminshoppe.com, it's good for many things, but strenghtens blood vessels and helps with healing.

Glad you have a doctor that cares and didn't jerk you around, you must not live in Mississippi. Take care.

You're probably safe with a daily low dose aspirin. Many people take it as an extra protection against a possible coronary episode. But don't start until you have the "ok" from your doctor.

I'm more concerned about the cause of your chest pain. It's possible that you may have torn cartilage in your chest cavity. This is extremely painful, and patients report feeling like they're "having a heart attack"... even trouble catching breath.
I've heard of cases where the cartilage was torn when someone slipped-- and made a sudden reaching motion in an attempt to break the fall. Other patients have torn cartilage while lifting weights and/or working out.

If you get a chance, you might ask your doctor about the possibility that you have torn cartilage. It's difficult to treat, and very slow to heal.. but I'm sure he can help to alleviate some of your pain and discomfort.

Hope you feel better soon... take care and good luck!
