I experience extreme pain on the left side of my lower back and the left side of my front around the waist area. So, both of these areas are probably connected to the same thing that is causing the pain. I really don't have any pain when I walk or I sit down. The pain comes when I sneeze or cough or take a deep breath. 5 days ago, I was lifting some pretty heavy objects that I wanted to get rid off from my house (cement blocks, various bricks, doors, etc.) and maybe this has something to do with it. Mind you, I can twist my waist and no pain either. Again, the most pain comes when I sneeze, cough, deep breath and it seems to be at its worse at night. Sleeping is excruciating. I am 46 years old, in excellent health and shape. Can anyone perhaps suggest something sensible regarding the cause and cure to this pain? Thanks!

You have probably pulled the inner costal muscles in your ribcage. That's why you have the pain when you move your ribs. I recommend you see a doctor of chiropractic medicine as soon as possible to get relief and instructions on what you can do to prevent this from happening again. I've enclosed A link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

well this could be a muscle strain. it usually arises from lifting heavy objects or from acquiring wrong positions during heavy exercise.
it may start 1 or 2 days after the injury. you will feel the pain when you flex these muscles and that's what you do when you're coughing or sneezing. just rest and use some ice (in a towel) on the swelling during the first few days and after that when the swelling starts to diminish, you may use hot fomentation. don't use heat when the swelling is big. try to take ibuprofen or aspirin to diminish the pain.
hernias are usually painless with an impulse on cough, so it's unlikely that you have one.
there are also other possibilities, so if you don't feel relieved after a day or two go consult your doctor.

I had a Pain like this back when I did not do crunches correctly. Basically The pain is probably something pulled, yes I know you can Twist around without pain but still it could be that. I know because mine was so bad I could not even laugh or breathe moderately without it hurting. What I did was just rested, and used a jacuzzi and baths, to try to soothe the pain. That did work for me, and hopefully it will work for you.

You probably pulled a groin muscle. You should go to your doctor to make sure. It's very painful when you sneeze. I pulled a groin muscle trying to push my sister's car last year. It took awhile to heal. You shouldn't do anymore lifting for some time until the muscle heals.

probably trapped nerves, or pulled muscles!!!

try putting a hot water bottle or a source of heat over the painful areas, or have a hot bath to help with the pain, also take ibuprofen (antiinflammatory) to ease the pain.

if this doesnt work go to your doctors!
good luck :D

I think you have a hernia (a tear in your stomach lining) that may need operating on
