Dental - September 2006

Hi...my righ gum is swelled since 2 days. I know i need to get a root canal done cuz the dentist advised me a few years ago. I didn't go cuz of my fear.

But now its getting worse and I cant even eat properly as food gets stuck in that molar. Its frustrating.

So, does the operation hurt?....Will they make me unconcious?

I've a new boyfriend. But I hate kissing him because, for some reason, he always tastes gross and has bad breath! I couldn't understand why. Then he said he'd not been to the dentist for 20 years! Is this why?! I tried to persuade him to go- but he says it's unnecessary as he cleans his teeth. How can I tell him tactfully that he tastes disgusting?! Don't want to dumb him- he's nice. I can't face just telling him straight- he's so sensitive. Any practical tips/ ideas for subtle hints?!

I have got a dental appointment which is next friday but have just started to get an infection come up in my gums, does anyone have any advice as to how i can help this to go down without having to make another appointment before friday.

I had a tooth pulled one week ago today. I had to go back tuesday to get the stitches out. I have had to go back everyday to get it packed with gauze and clove oil. I wake up in the morning and throughout the day I feel like I have Lockjaw. The pain is so bad that my vicodinES and Motrin are not working. I don't know what else to do. I can't eat because I can't get my jaw open that far and I am always in pain and it has been a week now. It is all swollen on the inside big and puffy and it hurts all the way up my jawbone and cheek bone. The dentist said that it is from all of the picking and digging that they did in there. They tell me that I don't have a dry socket but the pain in my face and ear is unbearable does anyone know what this could be? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

My teeth are an absolute disgrace, and im always in pain with them, i cant eat or anything. i need the all out im sure, im only 25 and cant afford anything fancy like porceline teeth, any clues?

I had a run in with a receptionist at my local NHS dentist and I want to complain but I don't want to send a letter to the actual dentist because I don't think they will deal with it. Is there a place I can write to? I know she is not a nurse, just a receptionist.

I have an appointment for a permanent filling and crown build up next week, but I've been waking up in the middle of the night and it has been sore. I believe this is because I clench my teeth, possibly grinding a little. Will this break my tooth? Is there anything I can do to keep it from breaking at night or is it not THAT fragile anyway? Another thing, is there anything I can chew with that tooth such as soft foods? Or should I just go on a pudding/liquid diet? I'm paranoid to eat anything because the other day some food accidently got over by that tooth. The dentist made it sound like it could break easily. How fragile is it really? Can I brush like normal?

I'm under my mom and I lost my insurance several months ago because I took the semester off from college. I just got reinstated few weeks ago. Anyways, a few months ago I lost several of my fillings--in succession. Because of this when I accidentally bit down on a steak bone I lost two of my right back teeth (not right away) and one of them is only half gone, some is still embedded on the bottom. On my left, my top back teeth has a big hole and my tooth is throbbing! Directly below it is another that lost a huge chunk of the filling. I'm so embarassed going to the dentist. I couldn't do anything about it during the time I had no insurance. I have an appointment this friday but I don't think they cover bridges, crowns or whatever they do to replace my missing teeth. What should I do?

I tried quitting but like they say, once you start it's hard to quit! my teeth are naturally white but I have noticed that they are turning an off white shade. Is there anything I could do to keep them white while smoking??

And it started bleeding a bit but then it stopped pretty fast, it was pretty minor but still. I dont know if im just really paranoid about dry socket but I didnt mess up the healing process did I? I dont feel any pain or anything but im still kinda curious.

I have friends who eat gum, chips and other stuffs, but my dentist says the usual, no gum, hard foods, etc. My sister has braces and listen to the dentists advice and brushed like he told her, but she broke her brackets 6 times in 22 days, following his directions. My friends didn't listen to a word he said, but never got any of his stuff broken...

my 2 set of teeth dont align with each other..my top row is jutting out but not too obvious..so i went to the dentist my school reccommended n the dentist said that they have to do surgery (as in i have to wear braces for a few months n then do surgery to correct my jaw. they have to detach my jaw to align it back)..my parents n frens advise me not to do it but i really feel like doin it eventhough i'm freaking scared..but i'm muslim so plastic surgery is not advisable..so is this op considered plastic surgery?

im a 14 year old guy and i want to know how much after insurance , i only have one tooth that is out of wack, its only my right top incisor next to my canine, it goes a little behind my other teeth and screws up my smile... can this be fixed by simpley puiilin out a moler to get more space or do i gotta get braces.

One of my tooth hurts really bad i had a root canal done on that on before. So i went to the dentist and he told me i couldnt really have any pain there because i have had a root canal. I dont know what to do now it still hurts though. Help, please!!!!!11

Is it true that if you are numb with novacaine you cannot feel anything? And is it better to go to my regular dentist for this or an endodontist? Will I have any pain after? I had one done years ago, but can't remember it.

Is there any way to stop the pain, I know its just brasis but it seems like it hurts more then it should. Is there sapose to be some poky thing in the back or is something wrouge with my brasis. Thanks For the answers!
