One that many used to clean teeth was just a small stick. Hard to explain the size. But, larger round than a tooth pick and length to what a person wanted. They may remove the bark and then take the cleaning end a tap it on a rock to make it Splinter and be Bristled. That was it. Way back before this they not do much for Dental Hygiene. When I took World History in College we had a very good teacher who would share small trivia that one may not read unless they were going for a PhD in History. So, he explained a little how the peoples teeth and breath were bad and it hard for us to really comprehend with the things we have today. This may sound gross, but, he explained that a Prostitute in those days probably was not the more aromatic person.
