I had a tooth pulled one week ago today. I had to go back tuesday to get the stitches out. I have had to go back everyday to get it packed with gauze and clove oil. I wake up in the morning and throughout the day I feel like I have Lockjaw. The pain is so bad that my vicodinES and Motrin are not working. I don't know what else to do. I can't eat because I can't get my jaw open that far and I am always in pain and it has been a week now. It is all swollen on the inside big and puffy and it hurts all the way up my jawbone and cheek bone. The dentist said that it is from all of the picking and digging that they did in there. They tell me that I don't have a dry socket but the pain in my face and ear is unbearable does anyone know what this could be? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

FIND ANOTHER DENTIST NOW!!!! Your dentist sounds like a quack.. I had dry socket and that is painful! My dentist immediately had to make it bleed again to form a blood clot, he didn't waste anytime. And I know that it is also very likely that you could have an infection and IF that gets into the bone you are very screwed. They thought that I had the infection in my jaw bone after my wisdom tooth was pulled & he said that they would have to scrape the jaw bone. Luckily that was not the case.
You do understand that infections in the teeth can kill you?! It is so close to the brain that the infection can penatrate the membrane that is by your sinus cavity and go to the brain or spinal fluid... Just find another doctor! Go to your regular doctor and let them take a look and if needed get a referal to another dentist. Until then, try cold compresses as much as you can and do a light swishing & rinse with warm salt water.

Was the tooth infected when they pulled it? If it was it will take longer to heal, and if it was they should have prescribed a antibiotic, and why did they have to do all the picking and digging? Did the tooth actually break off when they pulled it?
A dry socket feels like your worse tooth ache as it exposes the nerve where the tooth was which means that a blood clot didn't form in the socket, if it isn't any better I would consider going to another dentist for a second opinion.

I agree with Floyd S above. Discomfort will not go away immediately as there will be some pain once the tooth is pulled. I recently had a tooth pulled that had a bit of abcess in the root and 4 days later still have some swelling of my cheek and gums as well as a slight throbbing.

I had similar pain after having my wisdom tooth pulled. It was infected and the pain radiated all over my face. It made me so sick! Have you taken any antibiotics? Sometimes they'll give them out as a precaution, because it really sucks to have an infection there. So ask your dentist if it is infected and get on some antibiotics!

go back to your dentist because you have a dry socket. that means the blood clot that was there where your tooth was is gone. you will have to have the socket pack with a solution to keep out infection. do it today

Call your dentist, and they may be able to prescribe you with a pain killer, which you can only get at the pharmacy. WHen I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was on a pain killer that was only a prescruption, wnd it worked great.
