i went to the dentist plenty of times, and my teeth are well kepted up. but what bothers me, is my gums are a dark purplelish color, im asian, but i have a natural dark tan on my skin... all the docs keep saying that its natural pigmentation in my skin. but i noticed when i was pregnant, my gums were healthy pinkish.. now that i started s moking again, its back, its like on every other part of my gums.. its bugging me, can this be smoke related or is it gum virus, is there such thing??

I've tried brushing with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide for 3 weeks with no success. Perhaps my teeth are not stained and so there is no way to get rid of the yellow. Could it be that only stained teeth be whitened and not teeth that are naturally yellow in color? My teeth are strong and thick and I heard that can cause teeth to be yellow since less light can pass through it.

Just had my wisdom teeth removed a few days ago and try as I might little bit of food still found its way into my lower socket. Its been 2 days so far and besides a little bit of pain everything is fine, I didnt even have to use any pain killers. Anyways my question is how long do you think I should wait until I really go in there and start rinsing my mouth out trying to get that stuff out of there. I rinse very gently every few hours with warm salt water but the stuff is still caught in there. Any suggestions?

I am going to the dentist in the morning but am in pain now, I had a white filling put in about 3 months ago and its worse than ever now, at first it started out aa being sensitive so I went back to the dentist and he said it could take up to a year to lose it sensitivity, and i have been flossing daily and brushing with sensitive toothpaste, but nothing seems to help. At first it was only sensitive to cold or biting down, but now it hurts when i eat anything cold or hot and bite down plus now it is hurting all the time it feels like a nerve is being pinched or something. What should I do. I know the dentist is just going to want to do a root canal but I dont want a one i want it pulled its a back tooth so it wont be noticable.

I haven't slept for 48 hours due to an inflamed tooth. The problem is, I don't know which one it it is! All my teeth in the (affected) upper-right section of my mouth have a (deep) filling. So I guess a nerve is inflamed under one of them. X-ray didn't show anything, and the teeth don't react to the usual hot/cold/knocking stimuli. My dentist is at a loss too -- he did one root canal already and it turned out to be the wrong tooth, so I'd rather not venture down this path any further... The pain is getting worse by the hour, now it's even harder identifying the source, as I get these excruciating waves traveling along both my upper and lower jaw arc... All I want to find out is, which tooth is causing this, hopefully before the nerve dies and I get a gas gangrene! Ideas please?

My two lower wisdom teeth were extracted 5 days ago. They were both impacted and lodged under my jaw bone. I still have pretty bad pain that is only lessened (but not eliminated) by taking prescription motrin (800mg) every 6 hours. Is this normal? Should I be concerned that the pain is lingering this long? At what point should I call my dentist?

I recently had a small cavity filled and a few hours later, I began experiencing pain. The dentist said it was normal and that it should go away in a few days. A week later, I return to the dentist, still in pain, and she proceeds to "file down" the filling for a better bite. She stated it was causing my bite to be uneven and that the pain should go away in a couple of days. Well, 4 days later, I'm at the Emergency room because it's a weekend to get relief from ever increasing pain. On Monday, I go back in to the dentist and she replaces the whole filling. When the novacane wears off, I'm in the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life. I go back, and a root canal is performed. They charge me almost $1000.00 for the procedure. Am I responsible for this or should the dentist pay? I simply went in for a small filling ($150 which I paid for) and now I'm looking at a bill for almost a grand.....what do i do???

help!!! I couldn't sleep last night because of it, I've had little black spots on three of my teeth since I was 6--I'm 17 now, I went to a dentist like three years ago and he told me not to worry about them they're not real cavities, they're like a begining of a cavity but if you brush after every meal they won't get bigger, and he was right they didn't get bigger, but yesterday I went to a new dentist and he told me that they're cavities and I need to fill them, then I wasn't very convinced of what he said so I went to another dentist to make sure, but what he said was horrible he said that I have 8 cavities...... yes 8, I really don't know how, I have some light spots because of tee and coffee on some other teeth but it's very obvious that they're not cavities, I'm really confused I don't know what to do now "I don't live in the US" so everything is messy here and doctors just want to take your money, help, what should I do?
