I would not say that "so many" need this. I see maybe one child per year with extensive decay requiring this kind of treatment. The overwhelming majority that I see have either no cavities or only one or two.

The treatment is aimed at avoiding pain, of course, but also at preserving the teeth in the dental arch to guide proper development and hold the place needed for the permanent teeth. The type of crowns done in children are much, much less expensive than the type done in adults.

One of the big problems is the bottle when they are just beginning to get their teeth, alot of parents make the mistake of giving too many acid type drinks like juice, thinking its a good choice -too many juices will harm the enamel causing decay. The caps are used to stop further damage on baby and permanent teeth

Yeah, I thought the teeth capping sounded weird too. Way to young for caps I think. Not sure though.

Kids eat allot of candy and stuff, and do not brush their teeth as thorough as they could. The caps save the baby teeth to give the adult teeth time to develop.

Mostly its because of a combination of factors. Poor dental hygiene and too much sugar. My childs dentist told me she needs to start flossing to prevent cavities in between the teeth and she is only six

it usually is but now a days there is so much suar and candy, and parents are not controlling the amount kids eat then not making sure teeth get brushed so more and more kids are having to get teeth capped and other such things.

One of the most common causes of this is 'bottle mouth'. Children who have been allowed to go to bed with a bottle often experience problems with their baby teeth and need them to be capped. Another cause is inproper bottle use. Please see link below.
