Just had my wisdom teeth removed a few days ago and try as I might little bit of food still found its way into my lower socket. Its been 2 days so far and besides a little bit of pain everything is fine, I didnt even have to use any pain killers. Anyways my question is how long do you think I should wait until I really go in there and start rinsing my mouth out trying to get that stuff out of there. I rinse very gently every few hours with warm salt water but the stuff is still caught in there. Any suggestions?

Just swish a bit vigorously if your sure its food. It might be stitches. Or LIGHTLY try a toothbrush.

Don't SWISH!! You could dislodge your clot. You really want to avoid anything that could cause a pressure change. With your mouth open put the water in and just roll your head back and forth to move the water around. Don't brush the area. This could also dislodge your clot. But you definitely need to get the food out, if it is food. Call your oral surgeon and find out if they packed the socket with anything or if there are any stiches that you might be mistaking for food. See if there is a time you can go in and just have it examined.

just had my 4 wisdom teeth out as well - and getting food stuck in there isnt a great idea as it might lead to infection of an already-tender area. get a monoject syringe (no needle tip, of course) and use warm salt-water to gently flush out the socket (got a dry socket, myself....very VERY painful and hard to heal...had it packed with clove oil...)

best of luck..no toothbrush on it though, too rough...you dont want to tear the blood clot..
if this doesnt seem to get it out - best bet is to go back to the dentist for them to remove it.

If you have a medicine syringe you can put salt water in there and gently flush it out

To kill germs and dislodge you can try rinsing out with something stronger than saltwater, like 80 proof brandy. Using brady is better in my opinion than mouth wash because it is a more natural product. It might burn a little when you hold it in your mouth but that just means it could be killing the infections.

Just bang your head on the wall. It'll fall right out.
