Hi. I went to a new dentist yesterday, along with my wife. The dentist told each of us that we get cavities and receeding gums because our teeth are such that we can not chew side to side as she says people are supposed to be able to do. She says our upper teeth are hitting our lower teeth in such a way as to cause wear and tear and damage. She plans to sand down the high spots on my bottom molars so they won't get in the way of my upper molars as I'm chewing. She says she does this to all her patients. Is this for real? I've been going to dentists for twenty years, and I've never heard this.

Thanks.
Steve.

This one is strange.

I have toothache that only comes on at night (after 11pm) its gone by morning and throughout the rest of the day. Its not in just one tooth, but all the teeth on my left side, both upper and lower (they seem to take turns in a game of See Who Can Cause The Most Pain), and then extends all the way upto (and incuding) my left ear. Its not constant, it will come and then completely go. No pain killers will work, but standing up stops the pain in seconds.

I have a histoy of toothache caused by sinusitis, but this doesnt feel like that, or any other toothache ive ever had. And it was proceeded by a week of strange sensations throughout my whole upper and lower jaw.

Any ideas about that cause?

I'v finally managed to get an apointment at the fang-quacks but its not untill tuesday. :(

Here is what happened 3 days ago I had two root canals done. The pain is not going away I have taken 4 vicodins and that did not dull the pain, I am already on amoxicillin and that topical stuff you can put on your teeth does help a little I cant take any more vicodins in fact I took too many and the dentist thought I would not need something so strong. I only have it for the fact of a recent surgery. I added some more tylenol and now a little vodka. But I worry about when things start wearing off. I dont know what to do, it really hurts like hell

Help!

Ever since I had four impacted teeth extracted, there was a lot of trauma. I have a bruised nerve and my bottom gums are numb. One of the side effects of this trauma was that my mouth, inner cheeks, and gums got all red or irritated with burning sensations and dryness. My mouth literally felt like it was burning. What do I have and how do I treat it?

I have had numerous bad experiences with dentists. I had a tooth pulled and it wasnt numb, the dentist told me that he could not give me any more oral sedation and that I couldnt possibly feel it. Well, I screamed it was horrible. Basically I have come to the assumption that I will have to have IV sedation for everything on that side of my mouth. Apparently my nervous system isnt were its supposed to be, but only on the right side of my mouth.
Anyways, is there any alternative to IV sedation? And, is there a limit on how many procedures you can have done all at once?
I am thinking, if I pay for IV sedation, I want it all done.
Thanks for serious replies.

I just went to the dentist last week and she did some exrays on my teeth before cleaning my teeth and found out I had two cavities in the back of my teeth. Should I continue to eat sweets or should I stop eating sweets. Everytime I go to the dentist once a month I come in and find out I have more cavities on my teeth. All my teeth are filled in with silver cavity fillings.
