I don't know about the gum but smoking can cause mouth cancers, throat cancers and lung cancers. Basically if the smoke touches a place it will cause changes and these changes can lead to cancer. A dentist can tell for sure about the mouth cancers and might be able to tell about throat cancer. Lung cancer is usually diagnosed with a chest x-ray. Best bet is don't smoke, If you smoke quit.

Yes smoking can cause many types of cancer. If you do smoke you need to try to stop now and not wait. I started at 14 am 34 now and still smoke. It will kill you. It's bad for you. Gum and smoking I haven't ever heard that one. Try to stop while you can.
Oh yes I would think so since they study the mouth and all.

dunno about the gum, and doubt it. smoking can cause throat cancer, how gum is supposed to aggravate that is a bit beyond me. regarding diagnosing throat cancer, i dare say by the time your dentist could actually see a tumor it would already be much to late to give you effective treatment. if you're worried, see your gp and tell him/ her your concerns, he/ she'll be able to diagnose cancerous cells in your body long before they are visible.

The dentist would be able to tell and would probably recommend someone to go and see there Doctor.

I don't think they would want to scare you, in the UK you give your doctors name to the dentist so he/she might contact the doctor and ask them to follow it up.
