It seems a matter of course that impacted wisdom teeth be removed in the modern age. What did people do historically about such tooth problems? Did severe abscesses routinely claim lives? Did people resort to pulling or knocking out their own teeth when in severe pain?

i have quite bad overcrowding in the upper jaw, because there is not enough space between the 2nd and 4th teeth (1mm on the left side; none on the right) to let the 3rd come in between. all the dentists ive seen tell me to extract 4th teeth, however one explained that if i do so, there will be a gap between the 5th and 6th teeth at the end of the treatment. Im 14yrs old and still growing. another dentist (not orthodontist) said that my jaw will possibly expand as i grow, so now im even more confused. me and my mum decided to wait 6 months - 1 year to see if my jaw DOES expand and then proceed with treatment. what do you think?

I've been getting my teeth cleaned twice a year for over 10 years and they cost nearly $100 each time. Next week I'm going to ask my dentist if I can start getting them cleaned only once a year from now on, but I was just curious if anyone here has done this and what the effects were on your teeth... Thanks.

cheers,
Shauna!

I chew orbit or protex everyday. Is it safe for my teeth ? Are there any other side effects (like acidity, etc.) ?

I got the retainer last monday (8/21) and had worn it until this wednesday (8/30).. the problem started the 2nd day when I realized it hurts my bottom left gum everytime i put it in or take it out, but when it's there it's alright. I couldn't stand it on Wednesday because it's getting worse, so I stopped wearing it. I went to my orthodontist on Friday and told him about this. He tried to fix it (not in front of me though) and tried it on me. I think it still hurt. He told me to see him if it still hurts by next week. Okay. But just then, when I brush, even using the slightest force on that spot, it got me a mouthful of blood. What should I do?! (Or what else) I think I should wait until it heals. Then I will truly know if the supposedly fixed retainer would fit.

Hello all, I was jsuit wonderign about Teeth whiteners, over the counter ones. See my teeth are a little yellower than i would like, but i also ned to get to my dentist for a cleaning and check up. Could that be the reason that they are not up to par? Does a professional cleaning make your teeth any whiter? Now they are not badly discolored, just not quite what they usually are. Or should i think about investing in some over the counter whiteners, and what are some good brands?

I have a huge bump on my gums????
I have this huge bump on my gums right near my tooth. Sometimes it puses up and I have to pop it and it hurts my tooth too, like it's kinda loose. This bump after I pop it looks like a blood blister, and bleeds. Does anyone have any clue what this could be????

I've had it for more than a year
