Elastics make you sore. You can take whatever you take for headaches. Normally you get them towards the end of your treatment. If you wear them all of the time like your supposed to you will be out of them more quickly. I wore my elastics for three months and I was finished. We have kids at our office (and even adults) who never wear their elastics and it has kept them in braces way longer than they were supposed to be. So just wear them when you get them and get it over with. The soreness will go away if you just leave them in and it lasts about a week, tops.

The first few days it will feel like you've gotten a new wire. If you stick with them, the soreness goes away. But if you forget to wear them for a day or so, then put them back in, you'll probably get a little tender again.
When you get them depends on what type of wires you have. You shouldn't wear rubber bands with the flexible wires that most people start with, because they rubber bands will actually pull on the individual tooth that it is "attached" to, rather than the whole arch.
Your orthodontist would probably be happy to give you an estimated time if you would ask...
I hope that answered your question.

I had a plate before i had braces so my over bite was basically fixed before i got my braces....still i didn't get my elastics untill i had them for about a year. My friend got her elastics 6 months from when she got her braceas so i guess its different for everyone.
I wouldn't worry to much about the pain...it's a breeze compared the pain of getting ur braces tightened. Just be carefull when ur eating or putting them in...they snap sometimes when ur eating and thats no biggie(just check after youv'e had a meal that there there cuz if u forget to put them in for a couple of hours you will have to wear them for longer) but when u try to put them in they occasionly snap right on ur finger (ow) but other then that they're pretty ok, pretty soon you'll foget they're even there.
hope iv'e helped.

The rubbers are painful...I'm not gonna lie, but you know? You take a couple of pain killers, take a nap, and you'll feel a whole lot better. Little by little, as you get used to it, the pain goes away. In my case, I had those almost 2 years, but it was all well worth it. Good luck!!

I truly depends of the severity of your correction.
My daughter was in braces and a retainer for about 2 years to correct bucked teeth. (From thumb sucking.)
My son was in every correction possible for 6 years to enlarge his upper bridge, pull his chin forward and have 6 baby teeth pulled to bring sideways teeth down and in line as they should be. I will say his teeth are stunning now.
So as you can see even in the same family the correction can vary quite a bit.
And evaluation with the Orthodontist is the only way to find out for sure. Just get ready for payments.
Aren't you excited??. Pain?? My kids took aspirin as needed after a new adjustment.

Well you will wear them however long they take. I think mine took about two months. Their annoying but get the job done. As I recall they dont really hurt. Like I said their just a little annoying but once your use to them, youll forget their even there.
