It happens over a long time with improper brushing technique.
Use a soft bristle brush or a brush which suits your type of teeth.
Enamel is the hardest but at the junction of enamel n cementum (which covers the root) is the week part where abrasion occurs

No. I work for an orthodontist and I asked him that very same question when I first started and he said no. So, over brushing will not lead to enamel loss.

overbrushing and hard brushing can seriously damage your enamel and it cant be treated later on so its better to use a soft bristle tooth brush.

tooth has different layers ,outer hardest enamel, inner less hardened dentine, towrds gums u have cementum,if u over brush with, that is using wrong technique and hard brishled brush whare it is not indicated, then ther are chances that errosion of cemintoenamel junction near the gum margin might take place ,leading subseqently loss of dentin and then the enamel covering the dentin, alwayes apply less pressure, use proper tech ,

Enamel is the hardest substance in your body. NO! it does not brush away, BUT your gums can be ruined from brushing them to hard and they need to be brushed with care. More of a massage on the gums and hard on the teeth. Add flossing to keep them healthy.

I asked my dentist that same question because I brush my teeth about five times a day. He said use a soft bristled brush and don't brush your teeth hard, and you should be OK.
