I got the retainer last monday (8/21) and had worn it until this wednesday (8/30).. the problem started the 2nd day when I realized it hurts my bottom left gum everytime i put it in or take it out, but when it's there it's alright. I couldn't stand it on Wednesday because it's getting worse, so I stopped wearing it. I went to my orthodontist on Friday and told him about this. He tried to fix it (not in front of me though) and tried it on me. I think it still hurt. He told me to see him if it still hurts by next week. Okay. But just then, when I brush, even using the slightest force on that spot, it got me a mouthful of blood. What should I do?! (Or what else) I think I should wait until it heals. Then I will truly know if the supposedly fixed retainer would fit.

Till you get your retainer adjusted you might want to try a product called: "Rincinol PRN" oral pain reliever by GUM. It's in a liquid form, doesn't contain alcohol (won't burn or sting, actually it even has aloe vera in it) just swish with it for a minute. It supposedly "forms a protective barrier which promotes healing and instantly provides relief up to 6 hours" as per GUM.

Good luck.

DON'T WAIT A WHOLE WEEK! IF YOU BLED A MOUTHFUL OF BLOOD, GO TO YOUR ORTHODONTIST! OR YOU MIGHT STOP USING RETAINERS FIRST BEFORE IT HEALS!
