I haven't slept for 48 hours due to an inflamed tooth. The problem is, I don't know which one it it is! All my teeth in the (affected) upper-right section of my mouth have a (deep) filling. So I guess a nerve is inflamed under one of them. X-ray didn't show anything, and the teeth don't react to the usual hot/cold/knocking stimuli. My dentist is at a loss too -- he did one root canal already and it turned out to be the wrong tooth, so I'd rather not venture down this path any further... The pain is getting worse by the hour, now it's even harder identifying the source, as I get these excruciating waves traveling along both my upper and lower jaw arc... All I want to find out is, which tooth is causing this, hopefully before the nerve dies and I get a gas gangrene! Ideas please?

Sounds like "cracked tooth syndrome" and unfortunately this sometimes isn't evident in an xray. Usually though the affected tooth would respond to tapping and temperature. You said it was the upper quadrant. You could have a sinus infection brewing and not be aware of it. The maxillary teeth are surrounded by the sinus cavity. The only other thing I can think is, it might actually be a LOWER tooth, and the pain is radiating making you think it's an upper tooth.

have you been put on any type of antibiotics??? Sounds like your dentist is a complete idiot. Maybe the tooth you got a root canal on needs to be further cleaned ( happened to me a few days ago have to get it filled today) I got a root canal done but I still had pain a week after, I was afraid that my dentist did the wrong tooth too, but as it turned out it just needed to be cleaned and flushed out (where he did the root canal...the hole) The pain is gone and today I get my permanent filling. Good luck...I know exactly what you're going through, in just 1 year I've had like 5 root canals, and my wisdoms removed.....I HATE TOOTHACHES!!!!!
