I sympathise with you cos I have same problem. Dentist told me that the main thing to do is to keep breathing deeply and that way you cannot be sick. Haven't tried it yet but do hope it works as have an appointment myself soon. Good Luck.

Tell the dentist about it - he/she should then take extra care not to stimulate a gag reflex by staying away from your glottis (throat) as much as possible.
Ta ta for now.

grinning stops the gagging reflex - i have the same problem howver luckily i have a mouth big enough i can do a wide grin and still have enough room for the dentist! (well just his mirror things but you know what i mean) . the grinning position causes the muscles used to gag relax or something! he taught me it coz i was making him feel sick when i gagged!!!

While your dentist has his fist halfway down your throat, concentrate as hard as you can on breathing evenly and slowly through your nose. Don't allow yourself to breathe through your mouth or you'll find yourself gagging, and mostly likely biting off his hand.
Good luck!!

Take a muscle relaxer before you go and let the dentist know or ask for gas at his office. The gas will relax you.

No reason to be embarassed. Ask the doc for something. They are numbing rinses and gels (that he would have in the office) available. It is very common.
