my 2 set of teeth dont align with each other..my top row is jutting out but not too obvious..so i went to the dentist my school reccommended n the dentist said that they have to do surgery (as in i have to wear braces for a few months n then do surgery to correct my jaw. they have to detach my jaw to align it back)..my parents n frens advise me not to do it but i really feel like doin it eventhough i'm freaking scared..but i'm muslim so plastic surgery is not advisable..so is this op considered plastic surgery?

My view is that this is changing the way you look, so it might be considered plastic surgery. THEN AGAIN, since you have a functional defect, it could also be considered corrective surgery. Choose which interpretation you prefer.

its not considered plastic surgery if you just do the braces. i have seen plenty of people with overbites who acquire the satisfaction they are looking for with just the braces. it is a bit painful because they get tightened every now and then and they can be costly but if you really feel like you will feel much better then i suggest you go for it. do not let them do any kind of surgery as that will probably be unnecessary and cost you a load of money. Go for the braces and you'll start to see results in about a month and a half. trust me you'll start to feel a lot better, and wait til they come off!

If it is an improvement to your body and health, yes u shld do it. Let;s say someone bone is grown unnaturally, do u mean he/she shldn't have a surgery to correct it? I dun wan to involve religion or race in this question. So, no matter what happened to u, if correcting it will make u healthier and happier, y not. Jus do it. It'll definetly help u in future. Be confident of who u r though.

no my religion is kinda against it to (LDS) my mom had to have the same thing done and it might be done by a plastic surgeon just so it will look normal when your done but i would say do it you will have a gorgeous smile and feel confident smiling it didn't hurt her to much and her smile looks really good now. don't worry just do it i think you'll be glad with your decision when your a little older

Sounds like it is cosmetic and not medically necessary.
