I've heard teflon is not good for cooking on high heat. Aluminum may be associated with Alzheimer's disease. Iron significantly increases the iron content of the food. Bottom line, what is the safest cooking material (stainless steel?)

My stepdaughter had her wisdom teeth pulled yesterday morning :-( Today, we're going to a picnic/outdoor festival thing at dinner time. I want to bring food that won't hurt her mouth too much.

Any ideas?

I take several tomatos and put them in a blender, then drain the liquid and throw away the pulp formed by the seeds and tomato skin. I then boil the liquid portion in a pot for about 40 mins or until it thickens and becomes a paste. Before adding any seasoning I taste it and it has a bit of a bitter taste - nothing overwhelming but I could do without it. Is it normal for tomato sauce to have a bitter taste? How could this be prevented next time when I make a homemade tomato sauce?

eating or is it that they are cooked ok but then left too long? Or is it because they were too old when cooked? When prawns are not cooked with oven heat, but they are mariinated in lemon and then eaten, is that the equivalent of oven heat when it comes to killing any potential food poisoning? Also, when you are at a small island in the ocean surrounded by hundreds of moored boats whose onboard toilets empty into the sea, is it safe to eat seafood that is caught in that area either after it has been oven cooked or mariinated in lemon? Is it safe to swim there?

I've seen recipes for dill pickles using alum. I've also read about lime (calcium hydroxide) soaking before canning. Does anyone have any ideas on these or others for keeping my okra crisp.

**Please note. I don't need more recipes. Just ideas on how to keep the okra from becoming soggy.**

My mom has a what we now know is a vintage cast aluminum sunbeam waffle iron. She's had it for years and it's been a great waffle iron. Even with using a no stick spray or oil the waffles stick. She read somewhere that your aren't supposed to use soap to wash them and she did. Is there anyway to recondition it so that waffles don't stick?
