Neither. It has a large, flat, fibrous pit running the length of the mango. The best way is to stand it up on the fat end, look for the tip of the pit at the top, and cut around it. You can usually get 2 big slices off each side, and 2 little ones off the very edges.

The easiest way is to cut them lengthwise since the pit is rather slim and runs the length of the fruit. Cutting across is too messy. I've tried both ways, lengthwise is best.

Cut the sides off length ways to avoid the oddly shaped pit. Then score the pieces you have. Most people don't eat the skin.

You cut from the middle and when you do that then you get a strong knife and the edges pretty by cutting it with zig-zags! Its really cool, trust me i've done it before!
