I am cooking dinner tonight for my family, and I need advice on what to serve on the side. I am fixing chicken pot pie and thought I would have gouda cheese grits as one side (that is why I only want Southerners to answer this-- you understand the idea of serving cheese grits with dinner!). Should I also fix a green, such as a salad? Or do you think there are enough veggies in the pot pie already. Also, would cheese grits (or mashed potatoes) be too much starch too serve along with the crusty pot pie? Thanks so much for your help!

I am making it for tonight, and every time I make it, it never turns out right. It's always all clumped together in a big sticky ball, and when I try to add anything it just breaks the rice into bits instead of long grains like it's supposed to. I'm a good cook, so I should be able to do this! How do I get it where the rice is fluffy and light (and flavorful)?

is it wrong to put 'Shepherds pie' on your menu these days, seeing as it contains no shepherds what-so-ever. Is it a similar story with 'Cottage pie'?

What others dishes can you think off that will fall foul of this ruling?
