There's a banana bread recipie i found that uses no butter but instead 1 cup shortening. i don't like using fake butter and would rather use the real stuff. maybe the fake butter is called margerine. If i have this wrong, please explain what shortening is then and if it's not a very natural product, what i can subsitute for it. thanks.

I've been reading recipes for making Mexican rice, and I've watched my mother-in-law do it a couple times. Does anyone have any tips or easy recipes you'd like to share?

I want to make breads using 100% whole wheat pastry flour, no white or all-purpose. I want to try to keep the ingredients as healthy as possible. What's the best way to get whole wheat pastry flour to rise?

I really need some - I can give it to someone who actually knows how to cook, not me (Mr. Microwave)!

I'm intrigued by the idea of cooking with alcohol, or whiskey cakes.

Thanks!!!

My background is not Italian/Italian-American and we never ate out at Olive Garden much or any restaurant except Chinese or Japanese, so when we had a staff meeting that served an Italian themed dinner, and I was served Chicken Parmesan I was hooked.

It was a friend one night at an Olive Garden that taught me how to eat like an Italian. Yum!

Their isnt enough for another dinner maybe a lunch for one person or two if they are small eaters. I need to do something though to give it moisture. My neighbor said to shred it up and mix it with katchup to make a sort of pulled beef sloppy joe thing. any suggestions?

Just a regular, basic poundcake recipe. No cocoa, chocolate, cream cheese, etc. It's for a 3-D birthday cake so any helpful suggestions are appreciated. Thanks ;)
