I cook roast in my crock pot all the time and I work during the day. Just follow the directions that you have, just put the crock pot on LOW (8-10 hrs) and go to work and by the time you come home it will be so tender......and juicy....ummmm. Now thats some good eating..... I usually get up and put in on right before I walk out of the doo for work, which is about 6:30AM and I get off at 4PM. I get home about 5 or so and I still let it cook for an additioanl hour, just add potatoes and other little ingredients and wait. Good Luck with your first pot roast, hopefully it will not be your last........

Just follow the recipe and cook it on low till you get home. Don't worry about it, it will be fine, just a little more tender. I do it all the time I leave for work at 8 and don't get back till 5pm. My pot roast comes out great. Just don't forget to put it on LOW instead of high.

Put it in the crock pot before you go to work. Put your carrots, potatos, and onions in there too (before work). They will all be nice and tender when you get home. I put a pack of onion soup mix in there too for flavor. Add enough water to just cover the stuff in the pot.

You could do it in your oven in under 2 hours, by pot roast you mean in gravy right. Use cream of mushroom soup with Lipton onion soup in a package. There is a basic recipe that is good for your 1st time on the Lipton onion soup box...afterwords you can try other recipes, or modify the basic one...good luck and enjoy :)

Turn your CC down to low and add 1/3 more to the cooking time. You didn't state the weight of your roast, and for the future now is a good time to look and the I.D. plate on the bottom of your CC and memorize the Wattage range, this will give us a better Idea of how hot your CC cooks.
