What ended up being the total bill off of how many people? What are the pluses and minuses to doing this?

We are going to have free beer but are thinking about expanding the bar to being open to anything.

In other words, do you expect to see a banquet hall loaded with flowers, decorations and etc? We were planning this elaborate reception, but are cutting back. Now I think I want to cut back even more and he doesnt want to. I really wanted slipcovers for the chairs, put do people really care if we have them or not? I look at it this way: great food, music and drinks should be the main focus right??? I still am going to have the tables decorated, but is all the extra stuff really needed to impress people the first 10 minutes they walk in?

I asked a friend to be a bridesmaid, and she said yes which was great. Since then though, it's been weird.

She eagerly offered to help with invitations, but when I sent her some of my ideas a few months ago, she never responded. I asked her later if she'd gotten my email, and she just said, "Oh yeah...I got it."

Since then, and for the past few months, she won't return any calls. So, I stopped calling her to keep from being a pest. I send her an email once in a while, and she never responds. It's giving me the feeling that she's avoiding me.

I've asked if she's alright and whether or not I'd done something, and she told me that everything was fine and that she was just busy. It only takes a few seconds to respond to an email or to call someone back, and I don't see how you can be too busy for a friend. I'm wondering now if she'll even show for my wedding.

I want to ask her to drop out. Is that wrong of me?

Hi, I'm getting married next year and I am just starting to plan everything, but I can't seem to find out exactly who should be wearing the same suit as the groom? I know that the groom, best man and ushers wear it, but is there anyone else? What about father of the bride/person who gives the bride away and the groom's father? Thanks for any tips!

Do you think it would be ok if I actually wore a bridesmaids dress as a wedding dress? I bought a dress at Bloomingdales for a hundred bucks but I am still looking. It' s a beach wedding and the dress is very casual. Kind of bohimian like. I just found a nice dress on davidbridal.com but it's for the maids. I am not looking to spend a lot of money. Any suggestions? Do you think it would be very noticeable?
Which dress do you think is prettier?

The one I have already - NO HAT! http://s71.photobucket.com/albums/i156/ozmarules/dresses/?action=view¤t=mydress.jpg

Or the one I just found for a hundred and fifty bucks - http://s71.photobucket.com/albums/i156/ozmarules/dresses/?action=view¤t=davidbridaldress.jpg

We are getting married in February 2009 and would like to go some place where it is warm and we could possibly go snorkling or scuba diving without breaking our budget. I would like to try to make a decision soon so that we can make reservations and plan ahead for savings.

That is inexpensive, or free. Maybe a state park. Or someone with property looking to rent it out. We are planning on something low key with about 50 - 60 people.

My little sister is divorced with two young children. Should I call her my Maid-of-Honor or Matron-of-Honor? I know Matron means "married", but I'm not sure about divorced (especially with kids). Sources, please, if you can.

We had planned on eloping- a family member caught wind of it- and asked if we could do dinner with the family after the ceremony to celebrate and include the family (we each have a child and another concern is showing them that family is important). I said I didnt want to offend family thats out of state- she said you send invites to everyone anyway- and the dinner is meant for everyone other than the bride and grrom to pay.
Well- we're talking about November 18th! How will I send invites on such short notice, and how to word inviting them to a celebratory dinner, and not the ceremony (we intend on still keeping that private) also- how is it communicated that the bride and groom are not to pay?
help!!!!!

So my fiance and I are planning on getting married in about a year. He was raised Catholic, and though he's not orthodox he would like to have a full Catholic ceremony. I have no aversion to this as my mother was raised Roman catholic, however I was never baptised and was raise Unitarian Universal. Is it possible for us to still have a Catholic ceremony? I know we can ask the church, but I was just looking for some info ahead of time, or at least maybe some ideas for questions to ask.

I never really thought much of them myself, but my boyfriend proposed to me friday night and gave me a ring with a teardrop alexandrite, offset by a tiny speck of a diamond, and I absolutely love it. What do you think about non-diamond engagement rings? Love them? Hate them? Indifferent? Why?

2007-11-04 10:16:27 · 28 answers · asked by sarai_kristi 4

I just bought an engagement ring from a big name company for $5000. I know they have a big markup, the equivalent ring is about $3000 on blue nile. The value of the dollar relative to metals and precious stones has fallen a lot recently, so this only got a 1/2 carat. $5000 was my budget, but now that I look at it, it seems a bit small. If I can exchange it, I could possible spend a bit more on the credit card, but I don’t want to buy it from a discount place. Is 1/2 carat too small?

We are half way through planning (dress, reception, church, etc. ) It was intended to be a large wedding and I am not sure how both of our families will react. We are living together in a newly built house, both have full time jobs, and are financially okay. But this was completely unexpected and we dont know how to tell the family

My fiance identifies as queer & has had serious relationships with both men and women. My immediate family has already met him, likes him, and knows about his sexual orientation. My extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles) has not yet met him and they are very conservative. Their conservativeness has always been an issue -- often culminating in heated arguments between my mom and her brothers -- but they are family and we still somehow love each other and get along.

I'm worried about how the meeting will go between my boyfriend & my grandparents and uncles at Thanksgiving. I would, of course, protect him from any bigoted remarks that were directed at him, but I'm afraid that, in general, the atmosphere will just be tense. They don't know about his orientation so it might be a non-issue if he doesn't bring it up and the conversation stays mild...but I also don't want him to feel like I'm sticking him in the closet.
