My fiance and I are planning to get married in Hawaii in 2009. Because it is a destination wedding, we've already told family and friends about it so they could start to save up.

His parents and brother's family are saying that they won't be able to go because they can't afford it. I don't want to be rude, but we're paying for everything ourselves and all they'd have to do is fly out...isn't 18 months enough time to save?

Also, because my parent's are pretty well off they think I'm spoiled for having a wedding in Hawaii, and are giving me grief over it. They're being very vocal about their disdain, saying "Well, I would think it's more important to have your family with you rather than have a fancy wedding."

Both my HTB and I would love to have them with us, but we've always said (for 5 years now) that we wanted to get married in Hawaii. We have given everyone plenty of time to save up money, and we're trying to make everyone happy. It's so hard!

What should we do?

Ok. I have an engagement ring and to describe it is white gold a carat round diamond in the middle with 6 diamonds on both sides channeled. The bands we looked at are one is a half carat channeled diamond white gold band. We want two on both sides of the engagement ring, but I feel it takes off from my center stone. What do you think? Go smaller? Only one band not 2?

My boyfriend is a wonderful man and we have had a brilliant relationship for over five years, but I have a crush on a collegue. He likes me too but is also in a relationship. I don't know if it's just jitters or if I'm with the wrong man.

I wanted something different and I thought there was NO WAY I could afford diamonds but to my dismay--I CAN! wOOt! I thought the square shaped diamonds were unique too. :)

How is the best way to go about setting up a famous singer to sing at a wedding? I know it can be done, but I'm not sure how. Thanks.

For the past 6 months (ever since I got engaged) I have been contemplating the great mystery of a color scheme for my wedding! I finally decided that I can't limit myself to one color, so I either need to go with a few different colors or a few different shades. I was thinking of either sunset colors (since my favorite color is hot pink) and blending it with oranges and yellows in order to play down the pink, or ocean colors and using shades of blues and greens. As you can guess, my wedding is in late August. It should also be noted that my wedding dress is a very simple and ivory Carolina Herrera, so I want a color that will also compliment my dress (if that's possible). The number one thing I want is for my wedding to be elegant and classic. Which color scheme, if any, seems to be the more elegant and classic choice?

My fiance wants a lavish reception costing several thousand pounds with guests I don't even know. I think we could put the money to better use. How do you compromise?

We definitely want to give check. Just wondering about correct wording so that couple has not problems cashing it. Is "Mr. & Mrs. John Smith" o.k. or would it be better to use "John Smith and/or Ann Miller" or "Mr. & Mrs. Smith-Miller". Not sure if bride is keeping maiden name.

Hi,

My fiance and I are currently planning our wedding were planning it for Summer 2009, we were going to have a big church wedding {well not so big}; with all the trimmings, but weve decided we just cant afford it along with all our other obligations, anywho, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good chapel in Vegas, I prefer not to get married in one of the hotel chapels, I'd prefer something off the beaten path away from all the gliltz and glam....

Thank you very much for your input....

I was just wondering how much of a role did the groom play a part in planning your wedding? Did he actively participate or did he say just tell where to be and what to wear and he'll show up? How did you feel about it? Men feel free to answer.

If you or your fiance called off the wedding would you give the ring back or keep it? I feel it's a ring to be filled by a contract of marrige. If you don't fill it, then it needs to be returned. If you keep it, I think your a gold digger. Most court cases side with me. How do you feel?

I'm looking for a wedding reception site in the Washington, D.C. area that is inexpensive (preferably less than $100/guest total), but unique, for instance something near the water, on a boat, or in a garden. All-inclusive would be best, since I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible.

I have a problem. We may have had a couple of cards go missing in our wishing well after our wedding. I don't want to be rude and not thank somebody. What would be the proper wording for a thank you card to someone your not sure bought you a gift? I don't want to come right out and ask if they put a card in the well, but I don't want to be rude and not thank them either.

I'm starting a business of video slideshows for weddings, anniversaries, things like that, and I'm just curious what people think. I'm a graphic designer for a major tv station in Chicago and I think this would be a fun thing to do on the side. I have some examples at www.kmi-design.com if you are curious.
