Yes. That is too old. Consider having the children serve as Junior Bridesmaid and Junior Groomsman. That would be much more suitable and correct.

no, that is not too old. typically though, they would be junior bridesmaids and groomsmen at this age. but, if these are the two that you would like to serve as ring bearer and flower girl, that is completely acceptable. besides, they will probably be a lot less unpredictable and rowdy than a couple of 3 yr olds.

these days, you can do whatever you want. the wedding party should be the people closest to you, not the people that etiquette or tradition says you should choose. case in point: i have one sibling, a brother. we are very close. my husband is an only child but has a female cousin he is very close to. my brother wore a white tux and stood up on my side as my bridesmen (or whatever a good term would be) and the female cousin wore a black dress and stood up by my hub as a groomsmaid or whatever. the wedding party represented us and our relationships. tradition would have said that the female cousin should have stood on my side and my brother on the groom's side. in a day where people have their dogs participate in weddings, i think you can do whatever you want.

It's up to you, of course, and what the kids would be comfortable. I think 8 is usually the oldest guideline set forth by wedding planning books and what not (see my link), though there are of course exceptions to anything because you can do whatever you want.

10 might be okay for a ring bearer. I personally think 12 is a bit old to be flower girl. She's almost a teen, and she's going to throw flowers? Maybe she could carry a bouquet or pomander ball instead. Would she feel silly or that it's "babyish"? You may want to ask her.

Hi and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I totally disagree with the others answers. Yes, it is YOUR day, but you still want to do what is socially correct.

Yes, 10 & 12 are too old. Typical ages for flower girls and ring bearers on many wedding etiquette sites, put them anywhere from 3-8 years old for both flower girl and ring bearer. (Some sites say 3-6; others say 4-8.)

At that age, they should be elevated to JUNIOR bridesmaid and JUNIOR groomsman.

Good luck!

Ten is a little old for a ring bearer. They usually wear short pants and a ten year old is too big for that.
Ditto a twelve year old flower girl, they are anywhere from three to six usually. But you can make her a junior bridesmaid.
Having said that, I don't think the world will come to a screeching halt if you use them as ring bearer and flower girl.
Its just not the usual thing and that's what your asked about.

That is perfectly fine.

Heck, if you want a 30 year old flower girl or ring bearer that would be just fine as well!

Its YOUR day, and there are NO RULES or laws when it comes to how old people need to be!

My only thought on that is: Are bridesmaids/groomsmen older than the flower girl and ring bearer? (Not that it would really affect anything). I think it is nice you want to include her kids.

Congrats & good luck!

Those ages are totally fine! It was always common to have kids around 10 be in these positions, but somehow people started having them younger and younger...
