My intended and I are successful professionals in our early-mid 30's. Between the two of us, we have everything we need or want for our house, and we are very comfortable financially. As such, we do not want our friends and family to feel obligated to spend money on us or buy us presents that we really don't need. (Of course, if someone decides to give us a gift, we will graciously accept it.)

We just want our friends and loved ones to know that the only thing we want from them is to come celebrate the occasion with us and have a good time. What is the most appropriate way to let people know how we feel?

Thanks!

is it rude to have my wedding in the afternoon. I'm thinking around 12 or 1. i want to cut down on some of the cost and i would also like to make reservations at a restaurant for just me and my Fiance for a late dinner just so we can be alone for a bit on our special day. most of the guest will be from out of town that is why i'm wondering if it's rude. the furthest person will be able 4 hours away. i figure that it will also save my guest money since they can drive there and back in the same day. i figure some will still stay because they drank too much or don't want to drive at night but if they wanted to save money they could drive home. anyways i plan on feeding them sandwiches and chicken with several side options and a salad of some sort and of course cake and alcohol. does that sound reasonable?

Hey everyone! How's my favorite group to ask questions in????

Anyways, my fiance and I are in a disagreement. This whole time I've been planning the wedding (for the past 18 months), he's not said a word and that it was all up to me to do what I wanted.

Now, he found out from guys at work that since I'm Catholic, he's not, and we're having an inter-faith ceremony, he's worried about meeting with the priest in the next week or two. And he especially doesn't want to sign any paperwork, stating that we will raise our children catholic, but I don't find a problem in it, because I still go to church.

He said that he was going to refuse to sign that paper. I'm concerned we won't be able to get married in the church if he won't.

My question is that a couple of people here at work had Catholic/interfaith marriages this past year. Some said they had to sign the paper, some say they didn't. Did you have to? And did your fiances have problems with signing it?

Okay, my mom is dating this great guy. He is very nice and has five kids. Well, my mom has known him for like her whole life, but, they started actually dating in like March or April. They are totally in love. But...The problem is that he isnt totally divorced yet from a previous marrage. I mean, they are totally separated, but not legally divorced yet. (paper problems)
Anyway, I met his daughter and she is only 9 months older then me. We are such good friends and call each other Sis and our parents Mom and Dad.
So, we were talking to Mom and Dad and we asked if they would ever get married. They said Yes, just as soon as those stupid papers are signed in court.
So, is it wrong for me and my sister to go ahead and plan our mom's wedding? We want it to be in Hawii as a barefoot beach wedding....
Can we go ahead and Plan?

My fiancé and I are getting married in October of this year and we have asked our uncle to perform the ceremony. He agreed, so we need to find out how to get him legally ordained to perform a wedding ceremony in Georgia.

So my sister in law and I were talking about this and neither of us could decide what we thought about this.

Say you have a bride that has been married and divorced, but she is now marrying a man who has never been married before. Should they have the big wedding or not?

I know that I personally feel that every 1st time bride deserves the big wedding of her dreams no matter how many times the groom has been married, but I am not sure how I feel if its the grooms first time and not the brides. I know in my head it seems like a double standard and that the groom should get the big wedding (I'm sure his parents have dreamed about it as well), but something just seems off about it to me, I guess because I am not a fan of women repeating that wedding all over again. Its confusing and conflicting.

I'm wondering what all of you think about this kind of situation because I just cant decide and would like to hear others viewpoints.

Four years ago I dated this guy and was madly in love with him. He didn't feel that for me, and we broke up but stayed friends. He ended up falling for this girl and they have dated for two and a half years. This girl and I also got to be really good friends and we are very close. I admit that as I realized how much my ex loved this girl, I distanced myself from him a lot in order to keep from getting hurt. So now I am much better friends with this girl on the surface, and barely talk to my ex, but I still love him. About a year ago my ex and this girl broke up and then got back together. While they were apart my ex slept with someone else, and he confessed this when they got back together. Shortly thereafter they got engaged. They have planned this HUGE wedding, my ex is paying for it all. My friend just told me it's all a ploy, she plans on not showing up on their wedding day. Payback for the cheating, she says. What am I supposed to do? She doesn't know I love him.

I'm not getting married here, but want to know how is it that people can comprehend the costs of taking THEMSELVES out for a fine meal, drinking and dancing all night , yet they are dumbfounded as to what is an acceptable gift when being invited to a lavish wedding that provides all of this entertainment? I am blown away by some of the questions on this site that ask, what is a "funny" gift to give for a wedding or is my $10 toaster a good enough gift to give? Now I realize that brides and grooms are suppose to be putting on a party, however, where on the planet can you eat well, drink and dance all night for $10 or at the cost of a cheap toaster? I think it's insulting to walk into a reception hall with a package in hand, especially when it's from a mature, gainfully employed adult.

Also, will this just allow me to have the wedding on the beach or will it allow me to have it on the beach and keep the area closed off to the public as well for the duration of the wedding?

How much did you ladies spend on your gown? Where was it from and what does it look like?

I ordered my wedding gown from Priscilla of Boston and it cost me $6000. It's A-line and ivory. Custom made to fit me and hand beaded. It was the first dress I tried on but hesitated because of the price tag. After shopping around I had to come back to order it. It's very detailed and absolutely breathtaking. I have a cathedral veil as well as a blusher and thank god that was only $300.

Yeah, so why in the world does the bride, who has kerjillions of other details she assumes is actually important to worry about, take it upon herself to decide where a bunch of adults sit to eat at the wedding?

Is it just so she can be in control of one more stupid, unimportant detail that dictates what others are supposed to do on her wedding day?

Of all the idiotic wedding things I've ever heard of, this one takes the cake.
