I'm 25, have been with my guy for 4 1/2 years, and living together for 4 years now. I have every intent to stay with him forever. However, I'm just not too excited about an about an actual wedding. He calls me his fiance, but we've never set a date or anything like that. It has nothing to do with commitment, we're just not wedding people. I wouldn't be upset at all to just have it done legally. I feel so pressured to have a "formal" wedding like society says you should. I hate that I'm "supposed" to get married, and then have a baby..etc..etc..
What do you guys think?

My best friend (since the age of three) was married this past weekend. I live across the country, so when she asked me to be her maid of honor I was so happy that the distance would not stop me from being that. She ordered the dresses through a chain, so that I could pick up the dress she picked out in my city. Well, the dress she picked for me was a set (like a top and bottom that match). It was EXACTLY like the other girl's dresses, so I got a different top (same color) to stand out. I also ended up embrodiring it and making some really cool jewelry to match it. I even put streaks of blue in my hair to match the dress!!! This girl knows I am an artist and I never look common. So I don't understand, she started freaking out she saw the streaks at rehearsal diner, but totally flipped when she saw the dress and the embrodiery I had done and the different top. She couldn't stop crying. I had to be in the wedding because she coulnd't have uneven numbers, but now she won't talk

I told her she can't bring her kid (1 year old) to my wedding because the fiance and I have decided on an adults only affair. The church is across her condominium.
When I told my friend that she can't bring her kid, she says she'll stand outside the church with her kid so she can see me even if she can't attend. Now, I'm worried. It's going to look bad esp if our other guests see her and she gets the pity vote since I didn't invite her because she can't bring the darn kid.
She keeps asking if we have booked the church yet and what time the wedding is. She knows the date we are planning on, but I just told her that we haven't booked the church yet (which is the truth).
I told my other friend about what she said and I told him not to tell her the date and time of my wedding. My friend really felt insulted for me since he knows that we are only inviting 50 of the closest relatives and friends the fiance and I have.
How do I do damage control? Is she being passive-aggressive?

Can anyone give me ideas of some different songs to play when I am walking down the aisle in December? I really dont want to use the traditional wedding march music. I like stuff like enya, and irish tunes, and I love classical music but would really like to hear from others what they used or if they have any good ideas ;)

Thanks so much!

I already had it figured out what the heck am I suppost to do. She is my mother but she is controlling she did the same thing with my sisters wedding and my brothers and I don't want her to do it to mine.

My grandfather and I do not have a good relationship at all, and we never have. I am getting married next year and did not plan to invite him because he has spoken up and said he does not agree with me marrying my fiance. He found out that he was not getting an invitation and, as expected, was upset. My mother said if I did not invite him, she, my father, and my younger brother would not be attending my wedding. So I gave in and invited him, and now he is threatening me. I talked to him a few nights ago and told me "I'm not going to come to the wedding unless you serve a vegetarian course at the reception." (we had planned on serving steak. I cannot believe he is threatening me and his 'punishment' would be him not attending, when he knows full well that I didn't want him coming in the first place. My fiance and I are getting sick of this childish behavior, and my mother says that it's just the way my grandfather is. I really don't want to take on more stress than is needed for this.

My grandmother is flying from Colorado to Pennsylvania for my wedding next spring. I am not really up on wedding 'etiquette'. She's the only one flying from far away. Should she be paying for her airfare, or should I? She is insisting to me that she will pay and not to worry about it, but I feel a little guilty. Should I pay for it all, try to compromise with her(like me paying for half), or let her pay?

She is telling me what it should look like, what kind of food, decorations, songs, even jewelry I should have in it.

I was listening to her the first few days when she gave advice but now she is telling me what to do and trying to run over my ideas, she booked my dj which I dont mind that cuz she got him cheap, but that was with out my permission.

My fiance and I moved in with her a couple of months ago before we told her we were engaged because her health is deteriorating. She asked us to move up the date so she would be healthy enough to see it, well we moved it up to september when we planned on April.

Since I live with her this is going on several times a day, but I want to seem nice, but not have her control it. I need to be as nice as I can because she is unhealthy and too much stress can put her in the hospital. But the things she is wanting us to do is just stupid.

My husband and myself have been invited to my co-workers wedding in Sept. I have known her for about 4yrs and do not socialize with her outside of work. She is about 20yrs younger than us. I am really flattered by her invite and plan to go to the wedding.
Gosh, I haven't been to a wedding in about 15+yrs. What is the going rate for a cash gift? They already have a house, and all furniture. So, I figured cash would be best.

I am in the process of planning my wedding. I have always wanted a really small elegant wedding. (like 50 ppl) My dad just recently retired and is short on funds but told us that he will pay for our wedding. He said 50 people sounded like a good number and he will take care of the whole thing. My fiance's family is not okay with his. Him and his parents think that 25 people from his side is not enough people. I must also mention that they are not paying for anything. (Not even flowers and rehearsal dinner, which is normally covered by the groom's family) His immediate family lives locally so I am getting constant pressure from them and they say that I am being unreasonable by not allowing him to invite his entire family. (50 ppl+) I do not want to be rude to them, but I feel they are being extremely rude and unreasonable by expecting more from me and my parents. First off, am I out of line? And if not, how do I politely tell them to bug off and be happy with the 25 people?

My daughter is walking me down the isle in our upcoming wedding. I'm trying to find something different to give her as a gift besides the traditional "locket", "jewelry box", or "engraved frames". We want something that will pull in the symbolism of us becoming a family. She'll also be 13 by the wedding, so it can't be anything juvenile like a teddy bear or doll.
We've been shopping for our wedding bands, & are still undecided on a set since we are not really big into jewelry.

BUT, we've seen some really pretty 3-pc sets that we both really liked the bands. However "we" don't need the engagement ring.
FYI-The sets I'm talking about have the REALLY SMALL engagement rings, w/diamond CHIPS set in illusion settings--NOTHING fancy! LOL
IF we were to purchase one of these sets, what do you think about giving her the "engagement" ring as our gift?
We thought w/it matching & actually being PART of OUR set, it would have the symbolism we wanted for her gift.
What do you think?

Our engagement party was sunday. Last night on messenger his dad said "britt's mom didn't impress us, she has a shi**y demeanor and attitude. we liked the rest of the family". Later on he called her a basket case.

My mom didn't make much conversation at the party, and his dad also noticed I didn't talk to her (mad at her).

Yesterday I read my moms archive on yahoo. She told people she missed my dad and he should've been there, he died in febuary. She also said she woke up that day wanting to puke at the idea of me finally getting married.

I am not that close with the guy, we have been friends since high school through a group of 6 people, and I see him maybe 4 times a year. The wedding is in October, and first, they had an engagement party last year which they registered for. Strange, but I bought them a present for that. Now, his fiancee invited me to her bridal shower, and enclosed 2 registries. So am I supposed to buy her a bridal shower gift AND a wedding gift? Isn't it a bit much to ask for 3 gifts for one occasion? What can I do, so that I don't look cheap or like a bad friend, but also don't spend my entire monthly income on this one wedding?
