I got married back in December, and this is how I handled the situation. My four, I know too many, preschool aged cousins were my flower girls. They were almost three to almost 5. My 6 year old cousin was the ring bearer.
I had my almost 8 year old cousin hand out the programs and do the guest book, and my 15 year old cousin did a Scripture reading during the Wedding itself.
The 15 year old was included in the more adult activities including the bridesmaid luncheon the day before.
When I asked the 8 year old, I emphasized that it was a very important job. I made sure that she knew that the little girls couldn't handle a job like that, and that people would not know what was going on without a program and that we wouldn't know who was there if they didn't sign the guest book. Even though she could have gotten a flower girl dress like the little girls, I had her wear a junior bridesmaid dress the same color as my matron of honor that corresponded with the dresses that my attendents were wearing. She was also listed in the newspaper announcement with her job.
Knowing that her job was important, she actually refused to let people have a program and through the door until they had signed the guest book.
My husband and I hosted a children's party a few days before the wedding at Chuck E. Cheese for all of the children in the wedding party, and thus she was included.
I think that's the important thing. Emphasize that she has a job because of her age that someone younger cannot do, and not that she is just too old to be a flower girl, and then make sure that she is included in all of the age appropriate wedding activities.

Traditionally, flower girls run from about 3-10 years old. After that, there is an in-between level of Junior Bridesmaid. Junior bridesmaids walk down the aisle before the bridesmaids, wear a coordinating dress and carry a small bouquet. They may also get to hang out with the bride while everyone is getting ready. They don't generally have a significant role in the wedding or sit at the head table during the reception. They may also have some small jobs the day of the wedding, such as handing out programs and favors or guiding guests to the gift table.

Well flower girls age's range from 4-12 years of age. if she is older than 12 than yes she could be a jr bridesmaid. or she could have everyone sign the guest book and direct them on the right side to where to sit. If she is very good at taking pictures, have her take pictures of ppl that is at the wedding. Have her help the flower girl get ready. do lil errors that needs to be done for the(like help get out stuff when everyone is getting ready is what i mean)
she can even be a ring bearer, yes girls can do this. i'm having girls do this at my wedding.

A lot of girls who are too big to be a flower girl, but aren't big enough to be a bridesmaid, are junior bridesmaids. They basically are the same as regular bridesmaids, in age-appropriate dresses.

She could be a Junior Bridesmaid... That's really the only other role I've ever hear of.
As a Junior Bridesmaid she would Junior Bridesmaid wear a dress similar to the bridesmaids, but simpler in style and she would walk down the aisle as well.
You may also want to consider G/PG-rated bachlorette parties, so that she can be included in those as well.

When my brother got married I was too old to be a flower girl but I didn't want to be a bridesmaid b/c I would be the youngest one. So I ended up being the guest book girl...I walked to each table during the reception to ask people to sign the book. It was nice...I liked doing that.

A flower girl can be up to 10 years old.
However, otherwise, she could maybe hand out programmes at the church - would be nice to know how old she is. If a teen, she could sit at the guest book table at the reception.
