Jeans are never appropriate for a wedding.

My husband tries to get away with it all the time but I won't let him.

I think if you were going to the wedding definately not, but personally I don't see a problem just for the reception. Jeans can look smart if they are dressed up with nice shoes and a nice shirt, as long as they aren't ripped or faded, but you have to remind your boyfriend that he may feel very uncomfortable if he is the only person wearing jeans. It really depends on what the bride and groom are like. I mean I wouldn't mind one bit, and I wouldn't expect people to go and buy smart trousers that they will never wear again, but judging by most of the peoples remarks on here it seems that most people would mind alot!

I think it'll will be fine as long as the jeans are smart jeans. My husband has worn smart dark coloured jeans with smart shoes and a shirt to 2 wedding receptions before and nothing was ever said. He also wasn't the only one who was wearing jeans.

I've never been to a wedding where jeans are acceptable.

If it's outdoors, in a park or somewhere that the bride and groom are wearing jeans, that's a different story. Nearly all weddings are a big deal to the entire wedding party, and considerate guests wear nice clothes out of respect to them.

even if the dress code is 'smart casual', unfortunately jeans are not really acceptable. He should invest in a pair of trousers for these occasions - they're always handy to have in the wardrobe anyway. Jeans just scream 'I couldn't be bothered making an effort', and on a special day like a wedding (and reception), it's a bit insulting to the newlyweds. I'm sure your fella doesn't mean it to be, but to save any embarrassment, I would recommend he doesn't wear jeans.

Unless the reception is held at a dude ranch do not wear jeans!! Go out and buy a nice pair of dress pants and a nice button down shirt and tie and shoes. You can also get away with a nice pair of khakis, button down and blazer. Check out the sites below for a few ideas and then hit the mall.

It depends on the bride and how formal the wedding is going to be, if it was me I'd say YES!! wear the jeans and chill out, but then my wedding is totally informal, other brides would say that their wedding is more formal, as a general rule though I would say jeans are not really the best thing to wear as they are really a casual item of clothing.

It should not matter what clothes you wear for an evening do-as long as you attend that is all that matters. Jeans can be dressed up or dressed down. I suggest you do what you like!

I attended a funeral in jeans and a leather jacket once! so what! we were on a motorbike. We got some strange looks from some sad pathetic individuals, I just glared back. The deceased would not give a damn as to what we wore! we attended thats all that mattered..

Jeans are not appropriate for anyone to wear to a wedding. Tell your boyfriend to wear a nice suit along with a white shirt and a tie.

Unless it is a VERY informal reception (think picnic), then jeans just are NOT acceptable for a wedding. Sorry. Looks like he's going to have to bite the bullet and buy some khakis.
