That depends...did you send them save the date cards? We are having a destination wedding so we are sending our STD cards out as early as possible along with our wedding website with travel information on it. Invites we will still do about 2-3 months in advance.

For out of town guest it may be better to do a save the date card, as much as 6 months in advance.

Some people may need to get time off from work or plan a vacation around your wedding.

Send them out 3-4 months to the guests and 4-6 weeks before the date you should be receiving the RSVP's. The more formal the ceremony the more notice you should give the guests so the can pick the perfect outfit and pick out a group gift from your registry if you have some big items on your list. I got some useful planning tips from wedding websites.

Out of town guests, give them as much time as possible. 3 or 4 months in advance may increase the chances that some of them will be able to come. They need to book flights and get off work.

It depends on how out of town your guests may be. If they are in your state or in a neighboring state, about 4-6 weeks advance notice is probably sufficient. If you are talking about across the country, you would probably widen it to 6-8 weeks. If you are talking outside the country, you should give these people notice as soon as possible. It may take lots of time to arrange travel documents and airfare.

Good Luck!

I sent out save the date dates 9 months before the wedding, so they know the date and can begin planning their schedules.

We are sending out invites 2 months before the wedding, it's more of a reminder, "hey book your flights and hotels". 2 months is plenty of time.

Just remember, you have to know some details before you send out invites and things can change easily at the 3-4 month mark.

Generally, wedding invitations go out around 6 weeks prior to your big day, however, you can also do a "save the date" post card about 4 to 6 months before hand as well. On the post card, you can list local hotels and such. My cousin just sent some out and she did them on magnets (size of a business card). The magnet has been on our fridge since we got it and the date is certainly saved!

invitations go out 6-8 weeks prior. if you are concerned about out-of-town guests, you can always send a save-the-date card.

I would say about two so that they will have time to ask for time off from work. If it is around a holiday, I would at least call them way ahead of time bc its harder to get off work around a holiday for some people.
