The average wedding cost 27, 000! That was taken from an article off of cnn.com.

To me that is crazy. Mine cost between 3500-4000 dollars. I think it was beautiful and I saw no need to spend more. I don't think anyone should start off a marriage in debt. Spend what you can afford and it will be beautiful and memorable.

I had 125 guests, if you have under 100 and you do things yourself, then you could certainly get away $2000 or way less. It all depends on how much you spend on your dress, the weddings bands, and what type of reception. If you want cheaper, I would for with an afternoon wedding with a finger food reception. Wedding bands can be as cheap as $30 or can go up to $500 or more. And I have seen gorgeous dresses for $75 and also $1000 or more. It all depends on your taste and budget.

In the US the average price of a wedding, that's from Maine to California, is $22,000 for one hundred guests or $220 per person. And that includes the champagne . . the DJ . . the three course dinner . . the wedding album . . the table decorations . . the banquet hall rental . . and the three-tiered wedding cake. The reception is always 50% of your total cost, and it does not make a difference whether you have a wedding breakfast in a hotel or a catered dinner in a banquet hall or a barbecue at your grandfather's farm.

I have helped plan or organize weddings that cost over $50,000 and I have helped plan or organize weddings that cost less than $100.

The secret to having a low cost wedding is . . . keep the guest count to the bare minimum . . eliminate attendants . . and do not buy wedding day accessories like guest books, feather pens, and ring bearer pillows.

When my husband and I got married in 2001 we spent $6,000. We had a really nice wedding. I found a gorgous dress off the rack for $300, shoes for $20. My family pitched in and made all the food instead of hiring a caterer. Everyone told it is was one of the nicest weddings they had been to. No need to spend $10,000 on a dress that will most likely only be worn once. We did our own music for our wedding too. I spent hours putting together a mixed CD to be played at the reception.

In the US, the average cost of a wedding is 26,800 - per the wedding report - for 150 guests. If you are in a large city, like me (I'm in metro DC), then the costs are going to be somewhat higher ... here the average cost is 35k. I have done weddings for 50-60 for 15k, though, so depending on your guest list it is possible.

It really depends on what type of food you are serving, reception site, bar options etc...also where you are located makes a huge difference.

I am getting married next month in southern California. It has cost me $65,000 so far for 220 guests. The reason why I have pretty much gone over my budget of $45,000 is because our reception is being held at the Hyatt which is a beachfront property. We also hired photographers that Rachel Ray hired for her wedding. We wanted the best and we had to pay to get the best.

A lot of people will say why spend so much for just one day? There will be others who will say it's once in a lifetime...you can always save more money...but you can't just have another wedding or honeymoon.

Depends on how much quality you want in the reception hall, photographer, entertainment (e.g., DJ or Band) and accommodations for guests. This excludes the honeymoon.

Personally, I'd say to be generous in the photographer expense because pictures aren't replaceable and can be extremely different when using a cheap photographer or well intentioned relative versus a proven professional who is recommended by others.

I've heard repeatedly lately that the average wedding in the U.S. now costs about $30,000. I don't know how they gathered that information, though. If they went to wedding planners, obviously anyone who hires a wedding planner is going to pay more than most anyway, but if they went to the couples themselves, I find this to be a shocking amount.

Our wedding is going to cost us about $40,000 when all is said and done. Our wedding is for 150 people and it is in NY which is more expensive than most other places in the country.
