The band that we hired is a 14 piece big band ensemble. They can play anything from light jazz to swing to all out rock and roll. The only thing is that we do not want a singer so all music will be strictly instrumental. Any song ideas that will sound great and recognizable in just instrumental form?? We are surely going to have some different songs, but I'm stuck as far as choosing songs that people might consider "mainstream."

Thanks!!!!

Has anyone seen the bride sing at her own wedding before?? If so, how was she recieved? If not, what do you think?

I have a fairly nice voice and would definetly practice a lot with my band ahead of time. But I wanted to sing Norah Jones' "Come Away With Me" as a romantic surprise to my husband-to-be. I know he would like it, but I'm worried about how the guests in general will appreciate it. It's my wedding, but I don't want people to say I'm the weirdo bride who tried to go all American-Idol at her wedding!

Any comments, advice, suggestions appreciated!!

Any ideas for cool wedding favors??
I'm a little picky, which is why I need help, so here it goes:

Not too expensive, but I'm open to reasonable price ranges. No candy, bubbles, candles, picture frames, or soap. I want something different I suppose.

Wedding info: colors are sage green, pale yellow and peach. awesome 14 piece big band. outdoors under a big white tent in the summer. ocean in the background (but again, I don't want the normal sand and seashell favors, etc.).

I deeply appreciate anyone willing to help me with ideas! Thank you!!!

Ive been with my fiance for only 10 months, but Ive known him over a year and a half. I am crazy about him, he's a truly wonderful man. I know that some of you may think thats too soon, but please keep those remarks to yourself. Our engagement will be official this weekend - we are going to atlanta and he'll propose there; we already decided to get engaged but he wants to still propose, my ring came in yesterday and i havent seen it yet!! Anyway I always wanted about a year for an engagement, because I think it should be a time to be enjoyed, not stressed. I want more than anything to be married to him but I also want to enjoy our engagement. My parents are fairly well off and we plan on an amazing wedding. I want to enjoy every aspect of planning it. I want to get married on July 7th, 2008. Is a year and a half too long? For those that have been engaged for a while how long does it really take to thoughtfully plan out a big wedding. Any thoughts are appreciated!!

Did your destination of choice affect the time of year you got married? For example, we would love to go to Scotland, in a cabin on a loch, with log fires etc, so we are getting married next winter...

Hi..I am a capricorn sun..pisces moon guy and dating a sagi sun pisces moon girl..will marriage work?
We love talking to each other and have an emotional connection..but we do have concerns about our different approach to life in general...i'm serious, practical and somewhat pessimistic..she is almost the opposite. she does not like to be constrained and i need to know that she is there for me..i like security..
we're both confused and trying to figure out if this will work in marriage. any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

which would you think is better? Being presented with the traditional light blue gift box and white ribbon? Or the ring box open and the ring right before your eyes?

It's a tough judgment call. I can't decide. I know either way will be great, but I just wanted a woman's opinion.

we're recently married but have not enough leave to go on our honeymoon till april next year. I've got an injury and can't climb steps & we prefer something moderately lazy with great food.

I was thinking Japan, New Zeland or Europe? He mentioned rain forest spa (but he refuses to go to the local spa with me!) he also mentioned that we may take 2 short breaks instead of 1 long 1 (but i know he'll end up just taking 1 short 1!!)

can anyone suggest anything?

My bride-to-be is from the East Coast and we are thinking of having it for dinner. Do you think it would be too messy for my guests to enjoy?

I'm having a wedding in a couple of months and already had a tasting with my caterer for my wedding menu. We customized our menu entrees by asking for two entrees we've seen in other places, but we did not provide them with recipes.

We picked out most of our hors d'oeuvres, salads, etc but the taste of the entrees was a little off. We asked about the ingredients and mentioned that the entrees were good but had a little bitterness that is not normal for the dishes. I think they added some unnecessary ingredients and omitted some ingredients that would have made it better.

Is it ok to email them some suggestions/recipes and ask them for another tasting for just the entrees?

I am my youngest aunt's maid of honor. We are fairly close, more so than the other family members. She has just emailed me indicating that my boyfriend of two years, whom I also live with, is not invited due to "wedding invitation restrictions." The location at which she has reserved her wedding is limited to about 120 people. She, via email, said she's very depressed about it and would understand if I backed out, granted with fair time warning.

I less want to go to the wedding, but also want to as it is a great honor. At the same time, I would rather have my boyfriend there. There is no reason other than that that he is not invited, he has been to family dinners and they (from what impression I can gather) like him.

Any advice?? How do I tell my boyfriend??

No churches or priests for me! From what I can find all marriage celebrants are associated with one religion or another, is there no way to get lawfully married without religion playing some part???
