The band that we hired is a 14 piece big band ensemble. They can play anything from light jazz to swing to all out rock and roll. The only thing is that we do not want a singer so all music will be strictly instrumental. Any song ideas that will sound great and recognizable in just instrumental form?? We are surely going to have some different songs, but I'm stuck as far as choosing songs that people might consider "mainstream."

Thanks!!!!

I'm assuming that you're asking for ideas for songs to be played at your reception that will make everyone get up and dance - right?

Since they can play swing music, believe me - that will be a huge crowd pleaser, no matter how old your guests are. It's almost impossible to just sit there and watch when swing music is being played!

Two other types of music that really seem to go over well at receptions (especially if there is alcohol served) are disco and polkas. Again, both of these just bring people out on the dance floor because they both offer the chance to just let go and have a good time, and after all, that's what it's all about!

Of course, you're also going to want a few slow songs in the mix, since they'll be appealing to the couples and give those not there with a date a welcome break from all the dancing they've been doing. "Unchained Melody" (you probably know it from the movie "Ghost") is beautiful when played instrumentally, and it's romantic too.

Hope this gives you at least a couple of ideas.

Most songs will be recognizable & will sound fabulous in instrumental form...what happens is that the band plays the instrumental part just like they would for a singer, and then one of the instruments solos the melody that would have been sung.

Just pick your preferred songs, imagining that there are no limitations, show your list to the band leader and see what they say.

Always & Forever - by Commodores (This is a classic-blues) that even the parents will recognize.(I think)

Then there is the good ole "You are so beautiful" by Joe Cocker.

If you like Christian music, "Friends" by Michael W. Smith is real nice.

These first 3 came to mind. I'm sure there's thousands more out there.
Congratulations on your wedding. I pray the best!

God Bless!

God Bless the Broken Road that let me here to you
I don't know if that is the correct name of the song, it is by Rascal Flats and it is a beautiful song. I went to a wedding recently where it was sung.
